Well, I finally got myself a MArlin 1895g. I love it and it has been rainy and cold and today it is snowing so I have yet to shoot it. Don't really have a reason for telling ya'll except I have to tell someone. Wife wouldn't understand. Oh well, It had been to long since I bought a new gun. Sure feels good again!!

Congrats! I got myself a 45-70 as well last week, 1895GS. Except mine will be gone for quite some time (picked it up and off it went a few days later), I'm having it converted into a takedown.
Getting a new gun is always a treat, hope you get to shoot it soon.

Rain is a drag , ya gotta really WANT to go shooting to do so in the rain . Sleet is worse but you could pray for snow , that ain't to bad untill the targets are out a quarter mile :D

I have 2 45-70's and am dying for a third.
I've been lusting over one of Marlin's 1895 Cowboy lever guns. Any of ya'll shot one? It just looks too cool. What I don't understand is why the extra length in the mag tube adds so much to the cost over a 1895g. Sheeesh
Happy shooting.

Congrats Ed,
I'm envious, got any pics? The stainless version will do snow, no problem, heh. Do you find yourself holding the 45-70 next to other cartridges and shaking your head? :) Have fun!

I too picked up a Marlin 45/70 recently. Mine is an early 1895 repro, from 1972-1974. This was before the Microgroove rifling. It should shoot cast bullets fine. As soon as I can find those two boxes of factory 45-70 I have stashed away, I'm going to shoot this sucker!

I want a non-ported 1895GS in the worst way. I'm jealous, beyond words. Shoot and report, please!
And, while we're at it, where's the pics? C'mon, folks, with the falling cost of good digital cameras these days, you owe to your fellow THR'ers to let them live vicariously though you!! :)

I like the .45-70 also - Marlin 1895S, Ruger #1, converted Mauser bolt action, and two T/C Contenders.
