Hello,
Can anyone tell me what the prefix letters ( K-000. V-000) mean? I can't find the answer. Many thanks.

Python production started with serial no. 1 in 1955. By 1969 they reached no. 99,999 and started over with an "E" prefix.
During 1975 they were up to E99,999 and started over with an "E" suffix. No. 99,999E was made in 1978 and they started using "N" and "V" prefixs. That's all the information I have.
If you contact Colt's Customer Service they will probably be able to tell you more.

On the Colt "I" frame Pythons-- There were no prefixes untill 1969 when the numbers ran out at 99999. Then they went to "E" prefix through E99999 --1975--then the "E"suffix to 99999E. Then the "V" prefix when "E" suffix serial numbers ran out in 1978.
They stopped the accuracy testing and action jobs in 1973 at a little before Ser # E5000-- though most collectors prefer no suffix guns--the "old" style Pythons with all the bells and whistles ran through mid 1973 and through the E3000 ser#'s
The "K" prefix is probably another later run--But I'm not familiar with that-- and newer Pythons
Might mean something else-- (Stainless maybe -- Etc)

The new Pythons' serial numbers start with PE, which doubtless stands for "Python Élite."

"K" prefix is 1980's production, as far as I know. I have one and it is blued with the eight inch barrel.
