Has anyone necked down 14.5mmx115 Russian to 12.7mm, expanding your bullet choices, as well as making it civilian legal? You could probably get pretty hot velocities. Recoil might require a pachmayr. I wonder if norma or lapua would make match grade brass?

i would imagine that it would be pretty difficult to get 14.5 russian ammo. then you would have to get primers for one. i doubt that they're the same as .50bmg primers. now, you MIGHT be able to get some cartridge manufacturer to make a few that take .50bmg primers and have them already made necked down to .50. i think that it would be a cool experiment. that thing would shoot like a laser beam out to 2,000 yds.

Another thought, is the 14.5mm case larger in diameter than the .50BMG? If so, you could trim to the same length as the .50 (.50 WSM!)and use the same actions and still probably, (hopefully?) get 3100-3300fps with a 750gr AMAX. (I did some google fu and the stats on the 14.5 are 976gr bullet at about 3300fps. give or take a few grns/fps either way)
I'd make the call to starline, but I can't afford to daydream about this much longer to say nothing of actually doing it. I'm sure it will be figured out by the time I get the disposable income for a 4000yd "varmit" rifle!:uhoh:

ok, i'll make a deal with everyone. when i win the lottery, i'll totally fund this experiment with my own money, and i will use only ideas voted upon by TFL members. sounds like a good deal? :neener:

big sky brass has some 14.5 russian in stock. If you wanted to use bmg primers it would be a simple matter to machine steel bushings that would surround the bmg primer (assuming 14.5 is boxer primed  )
