10/22 Pistol Project ALMOST Done
Badger Arms

Just thought I'd give an update for those who are interested. I got the barrel back from the smith. Really good, clean job. He essentially used the edge of the safety roll-mark lettering as the cut mark, around 5 1/8" I think. Looks funny off the gun, but it looks good enough on the gun. I've still got to trim and contour the projection on the back of the stock so it's essentially a beavertail and not squared as it is now. I test-fitted the sling swivel to the stock near the end. I intend to cut the stock down some more in the front as well, just trying to figure out if I'll fill the gap or leave it as-is. Not sure at this point. One other addition I'll make is a red-dot scope. For some reason, my dot scope has gone missing. Probably just buy a cheap one in the interim.
The picture below is with a Glock 22. Note it's not overly large and the low weight makes it handle pretty well. Weight is around 41 ounces methinks. Not sure if my scale is accurate, but that's 20% lighter than it has to be so I'm confident. The balance point is right in the middle of the ejection port.
Would anybody like to make a suggestion? I’m open to any help I can get.

Um whats the sling for?

At this point, I'm toying with it. The fore-stock is actually going to get cut down and I'll probably ditch the sling. Right now, I can slip my left fore-arm through and pull it taught. Makes for a very steady hold. That's one thing I'm looking for suggestions on.

Q?
What are the legalities of doing that? Is it just a matter of paying the $200 tax or is there something else to it?
I looks weird.:)

Had to buy a component receiver to make it legal. I could have paid the $200 tax and done it with the factory receiver, but I didn't want to go there. Yes, it looks weird now. I hope it looks better with the projection contoured on the rear and the stock somewhat shorter in the front.

Have you considered adding a suppressor?

My questions:
1...are you going to carry it in a pocket holster??
2...does it have "DA SWITCH"?:D

What brand receiver?

The receiver is a "Force Productions" receiver. STI is currently marketing the receiver, although I'm not sure if they are making it or not. I bought it from brownells. Yes, I've considered a suppressor, however I've decided definitely not... it's supposed to be a short gun. If I want a suppressed pistol, it'll be a Ruger MK-II.
No, pocket holsters might be a bit beyond the scope of what I'd consider useful. No other gimicks on this gun, although I might install a GAT trigger and use my 50 round mags to make a bullet hose out of it.

all i can suggest is filling it with snakeshot and refering to it as a mini cruiser ;)

I`d put a sling swivel on the projection after it`s trimmed down. Then I`d put a spring steel clip on the side of the stock similar to the pocket clips on many folding knives. That way you could sling it over your shoulder bandoleer style and clip it to your belt so it wouldn`t flop around. You could probably get a pretty solid hold by pushing it out against the sling. Instead of a red dot sight I`d consider a laser mounted in the fore end. That would be too cool!
Also a flash hider might be nice if it`s legal.

Flash hider is not legal at this time. I like the laser idea. I could even mount it under the barrel in the stock so it'd be out of the way. Hmmmm.

Don't forget the 50 ounces weight limit until September.

That was what I was wondering. If the magazine is not in the pistol grip there is a 50oz weight limit or it qualifies as an assault weapon. How much does it weigh?

My father recommended I recontour the front of the stock. I was thinking I could glue some pistol sights on the right side of the stock for that "Ghetto Hold" drive-by look!
As mentioned in the first post, the gun weighs 41 ounces as pictured minus sling and magazine. I'm well aware of the 50 ounce limit.

I would suggest an aggressive reshaping to the stock, ditching the sling and sling attachments. Try to shape the stock to as close to the metal as you can all around.
As for carry methods... I have a suggestion. A belt hook. Like what is on some musket pistols, some flint lock pistols... it's a metal rod with a ball at the end that goes along the side of the frame and you can just tuck that rod behind a belt and there you go. No need for holsters... no need for slings.

GASPP GASPPP COUGH COUGHhhh NO HOLSTER???:what:
a hook ala the old flint lock "horse" pistols sounds like a good idea, I mean it isnt a Leather holster, HAND CRAFTED for that weapon (as all weapons deserve!!) but I GUESS it will be sufficient:D :D :D
I gotta switch brands of glue;)

Is there still some stupid rule about having a forearm on a semiautomatic pistol or am i thinking about something else?

Still need a scope and a dovetail blank, but it's about done. I might or might not remove the sling swivel on the grip.

I`d think twice before ditching the sling. 41+ ounces supported by only your belt could get old pretty fast.

Well, while there's a little room on the fore-end to put a swivel, I think it would work better if the stud were in the top of the rear tang and I only used one swivel. The gun would dangle when carried but provide a good tight hold for shooting rabbit, grouse, cans, etc. The rear tang could be cut down some more, that would make the overall length a bit shorter. The main reason I left it all there is because it supports my shooting hand better.
Hmmmm, this gun is about the same size as my Super Blackhawk, maybe a shoulder holster would work. That's how I carry the SBH in a vertical shoulder holster.

That is one sweet, bizarre-looking pistol.
Get some optics on there and tell us how it shoots!

For the record, on a calibrated scale, version 19 shown above is 41.8 ounces. My scale was a bit off. I do plan on putting a red dot scope on the gun. Being more of a fun gun than anything, I'm not overly concerned about accuracy. For those who want to know, I'll put a Tasco 4x scope on it and do some bench work though. The cut/crown job is excellent and the gun should produce respectable groups for rabbits, methinks.

Congrats on the pistol project. I think it looks bad ass. I can't think of too many reasons to own one but the simple fact that it looks so bad is enough for me.

The recoil must be absurd with such a high bore axis :p :D ;)
