Measuring DORK FACTOR....

In a recent thread, Skunkabilly posted an image of a clear kydex holster. Initially, I found them cool and had to have on for either my 92fs or my USP. Upon further review, I'm realizing h "Dork Factor" might be pretty high. So, instead of hurting myself & making the decision on my own, I've decided to ask the level heads on THR. So, what is your opinion of a clear kydex holster? I believe they can be seen on www.cen-dex.com

I think that they are cool *if* you have a nice looking gun to put in them. Basic black (ahem TACTICAL :D ) wouldn't be that spiffy.

Now a nice stainless or two-tone would look very, very sharp.

I'd be curious how many people get IWB's made of the clear stuff :scrutiny:

I'm thinking I'd get it for either my inox 92fs or hard chromed P7M8

Yeah, I was wondering about IWB ICE myself...Y?:scrutiny:

If YOU like it then thats all that matters :)

And if I saw you with one I wouldn't think "DORK!"

But I doubt that I would buy one myself.

I'd be more inclined to say that anyone who buys a piece of equipment with the notion that its instantly going to make them 'tactical' is more of a dork than someone who buys a clear kydex holster simply for its unique 'coolness' factor.

Clear Kydex would be great for scaring sheeple while open carrying.

Looks like something that you would put your lunch in. Does it come with a zip lock? Hah!

So far, the vote is split 50/50. I only put a 3 day limit on the voting coz I don't want this trivia taking up alot of time. Still on the fence....:scrutiny:

Seen those garish, over-the top images on the EAA website?

Yeah. Perfect place for clear kydex.
There, and in the next Austin Powers movie.

Wonder if Pamela Anderson would wear a clear Kydex Bikini with a clear kydex holster in EAA's next ad?

I rather be a dork poser with a good sense of humor than a tactical poser that takes himself too seriously! GET THE CLEAR!!!!

Just want to clarify a technicality. Isn't being a dork poser like being a little pregnant? Once you've crossed over you're a dork w/ no middle gound. Whereas a tactical poser wears all the gear and and just screams out wannabe :scrutiny:

While the clear holsters may be cool today, real leather will never go out of fashion..

Go with the leather. Not unless the Skunk gets a clear one. Then, you'll have to buy one just to "keep up with the Joneses" or should I say ....Skunkabirries!!:neener:

Where is the choice for "Don't like kydex at all"?

Clear, black, red, blue, polka-dotted, striped.....I'd still pass on it. Leather is better.

Thank you.

I'm not voting in this poll.

If a clear kydex holster is selling for $10, while an identical nonclear kydex holster is selling for $9.99, I would pick the nonclear kydex holster.

If the prices were reversed, by decision would be reversed too.

Why would 'I' need to see if a gun is in 'my' holster? All I have to do is feel and know that the gun is in the holster. My eyes are on the target, not on the holster.

If you even gotta ask the question - DORK.

if you're going to go clear, you gotta have something to show. showing a matt black tatical piece would be really dorky. much better choice would be stainless or two-tone...a multi color ploy frame TZ or 1911 would be way cool.

you do know that repeated drawing would resault in a "frosted" look

clear kydex = DORKUS MAXIMUS (but I'm a dork for using the term dorkus maximus)

but you could match your clear cell phone, clear cell phone case, clear pager, clear pager case, heck, you could put on a bubble wrap suit (although the snapping bubbles would'nt provide much of a tactical advantage)

I think I'd go w/ my inox 92fs and get some carbon fiber grips for it too. That'll be my going out on the town gun

I'd rather be neither - get leather or black.

Maybe not for daily carry, but the clear holster would be a slick way to show off your BBQ gun.

L. Ron Hubbard would tell you to get the clear. (sorry, couldn't resist :D)

I think I have found a company that is making a holster from the best of both worlds.

They have recently posted pictures of a clear (see through) leather material, that they are finding is very capable of pistol holsters, both IWB and OWB.

Here's a link:

I'm not afraid to be a dork; after all, that's "Dork with gun. See?"

10-ring,

It was a joke. run your mouse over the link once more and read the URL that pops up in your status bar below (if you have it turned on), if not click the link and read the URL.

For those of you who don't know P Ditty is a rapper...and I could care less for him or his use of handguns in vilolent situations...this was a reference to a thread on either Glocktalk or TFL...others might remember for sure.

Wow. Clear leather holsters. Imagine the possibilities... clear leather pants :D

I wonder if they have transparent aluminum alloy frames? Would be good to have to know when your frame internals are dirty. Also, to see what is rubbing and giving you that gritty trigger.

knowing that one man's Dork factor is another's cool, I won't get into judging these clear kydex holsters that way. I will say though that I will never, ever put my guns in plastic holsters. Make mine out of leather, please.

Well, the poll is officially CLOSED. The winner is "DORKY!" Okay, so my 1/2 baked, hair brained idea seems to have died in a ball of flames. Next step...deciding then, what attributes add up to a cool holster????

10 Ring, not to be facetious, but who cares what anybody else thinks? Seriously.

Your guns, your holsters, your gear, your opinion. Do what you want.

Everybody else? Forget them.

You want clear kydex, get clear kydex. You want black, get black. You want green, get green. Do whatever makes you happy and leave the peer pressure problems to the teenagers.
