The High Road demographics poll
Pardon me if this has been beaten to death. I checked the search engine and couldn´t find anything related, so here goes nothing. I was on Jim March´s site reading a compilation of articles on CCW and one had the demographics of who got carry permits. Very depressing. 94% male, 90% white, mostly over 40, very few under 25. My question is, the high road has a very high percentage of CCW holders compared to an average sample of gun owners, so what are our demographics like.
Certainly a sensitive issue for some but here goes nothing.

White, man, 35-45. I guess I fall in with the masses of Jim's demographics.

This is like a .gov form, white, not caucasion. :neener:

Is calling a white guy caucasion like calling a black guy colored? I have noticed a move away from the use of the term caucasion over the years.

Well, we have some stats to work with it seems.

Now, try and factor in the already stated stats that show that white males are the majority of WWW surfers. You could probably figure out, roughly, how many non-white non-male people WOULD have answered the poll with a little bit of work and fuzzy logic.

I was surprised to see education level not mentioned on the poll. I certainly don't think that actually matters when dealing with people one on one, but it would probably help to show a relation between firearms enthisiasts and higher education.

Now, take all this data and go find the corresponding data from the FBI that'll show you what social groups are least likely to commit violent firearms related crime.

Throw away "elderly asian women" as they're probably in the top spot. :)

What you'll probably find is that the very same demographic (us) that eats sleeps and drinks firearms and owns a plethora of them is the least likely group to commit a violent crime with a firearm. Kinda wonky, isn't it? Assuming my guess is true. We've got the majority of the guns and ammo in the country but we're the least likely to commit crime with them. How disturbing to the VCP.

WARNING: I'm going to get offesensive here with arguments I do not agree with.

Armed with such stats you could probably show:

- Minorities (blacks and Mexicans) show a low interest in legal RKBA with an out of proportion link to violent firearm related crimes.

I'd really like to sit down for a few weeks and assemble some really hard numbers on the subject to be honest. Not because I think only rich white men with a college education should own firearms -- but because it's be a horribly fun path to take the anti's down.

- ID a group with a low RKBA interest
- ID a group with high violent firearm related incidents
- Get the anti to subscribe to your "thinking"
- Watch them crap themselves when you tell them your "logic" calls for the removal of RKBA from blacks or some other group.

Their liberal everybody-needs-a-hug head would friggen explode.

Please don't take such comments as being racially motivated. If you can prove without a doubt that it's entirely impossible to show the above situation to be patently false please do -- I'd honestly love to see them. However, everything I've seen says that such a case could be made.

I think polls like this are interesting.
I would have like to see it expanded into states/countries and to see who does and doesn't have carry permits and/or multiple permits.

The numbers will never reflect the real world because THR is not the real world.
There are many women who carry and are involved in RKBA. But many of them just don't have either the time or inclination to come here.
There are many more minorities involved in the real world also that just don't make it here. Or just haven't made it here yet.

One of the many things I like and admire about THR is the fact that all people are welcomed. I know that I am only one of many who has chatted with and been involved with spitited discussions with people I know nothing about. I was surprised to find out that Pax and M58 were women.
(I hope I didn't spoil that for those who didn't yet know.)

I must also admit that I was pleased to make those discoveries. But if they hadn't obviously revealed that fact I would have never known. I have also been pleasantly surprised to find that several of our more learned and active members are so young.

I consider THR to be, at least in spirit, the epitome of what used to be called a "think tank". It is wonderful that we now live in a world where the thoughts and questions as well as the knowledge of the "average" person can be so far reaching and easily accessible.

It is good to have diversity. I only hope that as THR grows so will our demographics.
The synergy here is amazing. THR is a prime example of the sum being greater than it's parts.

There's a catagory for multi-racial, so there shouldn't be multiple answers in this section, but I guess there were those who chose to do so anyway.

What the hell difference does race make? Why is it always asked for?

Pigeon holing people into racial groups is a small part of why there is racism.

We're all just people. When ever I have to answer the race question I check other and write in Human Being. Got a visit from the census pukes during the last one about that. I told 'em to put me in jail if it was that big of a deal to 'em. The feds seem to have figured it wasn't worth the effort or more likely the census puke filled in the info herself after she saw me.

WE'RE PEOPLE FOR KRIIIIIST'S SAKE! AND THE SOONER WE START THINKING OF OURSELVES THAT WAY AND TEACHING OUR CHILDREN THAT THE SOONER RACE WILL STOP BEING AN ISSUE!

This is from the People for the Correct Way's homepage.

2. BAN RACIAL NOTICING.
Bad enough that law enforcement and immigration agencies allow their officers to know what groups are more likely to commit crimes than other groups. Such “racial profiles” strike at the very heart of our rights and our liberties, by causing criminals to be caught!
But just banning racial profiling is not enough. Police are still guilty of “racial noticing.” Many officers notice whether a suspect is black or white. They write this information in police reports. This practice must stop.

People for the Correct Way believes that to make police work truly colorblind, officers should in fact be colorblind. All law enforcement and immigration personnel should be issued special glasses, similar to 3-D movie glasses, that would make it impossible for them to perceive color. Federal legislation would mandate the wearing of these glasses. Officers and agents would also be issued forward-looking infrared sensor devices to compensate for certain depth-perception problems during nighttime use.

I do fit the general profile: white (although I'm 1/8 Spanish), 49, no CCW since I live in the bay area (and have no desire to marry Sen diane Feinstein), 4 yrs in the Army a long time ago. As a side note - a local motorcycle newspaper City Bike (published in San Francisco) once did an article on how many riders also own guns. Pretty interesting. April 20, 2004, 10:50 PM
While we're on the subject, it's stupid to say "biracial." Is anyone on the forum making it with a Borg? Unless black people are from out of space, I'm going on a ledge and assume everyone here is human. The fact that I'm Irish, America, and Greek and German makes me "multicultural." Since Sicilians (and Italians) have the only Latin language that actually has Latin, I'm Latin too. French, Portuguese, and Brazilian are also Latin.... I never understand why these boxes are found on every government document including those forms for gun purchases. Whenever I see them, I always check off "Other." Just yet another example of political correctness contridicting itself.

joab
April 20, 2004, 11:02 PM
Human is not a race it is a species, a sub species of Hominid, Caucasion, Asian, Nego, and Aboriginal are races within the species. To ignore that would be to ignore that there are certain definite, although mostly superficial, genetic differences between us

Mastrogiacomo

Sicily's an island by the way. But you knew that right Actually no not till I looked it up. But hey, not even I can know everything:D

And sorry but I don't get your point. I don't get how where you live has anything to do with your racial makeup (Sicillian- American)

Now my brothers who are Asian/Caucasian are bi-racial and my Polish/Puerto Rican son is also bi-racial but that's because he is Hispanic and Caucasion not because his parent's ancestors come from different countries.

My Vietnamese wife who has moved to America and my BIL who is a Black man are Asian-American and African- American which makes my wife multicultural, but not necessarily my BIL, but neither are biracial

However his sister who married a White man had a son who is bi-racial and happens to also live in America which makes him a Biracial-American but not necessarily a multicultural American.

There was a Mexican comedian Pablo somebody who said it best ' "The world will be better off when we all look Phillipino" implying (I think) that Phillipinos are actually multiracial and multicultural, but I could be wrong.

I think my point is ,who really gives a damn, but my head hurts I'm gonna go lie down.

We could simplify things by eliminating many of these categories. Anthropologically speaking, there are really only a few races (Caucasoid, Mongoloid, Negroid). Europeans, Mid-Easterners, fit into the Caucasoid type. Native Americans being descended from Asians, fit into the Mongoloid type, & Africans Negroid. These racial divisions are based on environmental factors, not cultural/political ones (& definitely not based on socio-economic factors). Mongoloid skin color & body types (being short, squat, etc) being best adapted to retain warmth in cold regions, while Negroid dark skin & body type (kinky hair, broad noses, taller, etc) are adaptations the heat of tropical environs. Current Anthropological paradigms are working hard to do away with these categories by questioning whether race really exists at all. As far as the other categories mentioned in the poll, these might be better categorized as ethnicities. While I find some aspects of these polls interesting, I also think that as a society we put far to much emphasis on such things as race. I don't intend to debate the issue, but will admit I believe many of these polls to be the product of the politically correct ramblings being spewed daily by our "well intentioned" media & professional politicians. Personally I'm getting weary of politicians reminding me each election year of what they've decided the "issues" to be (i.e., race, education, the economy). Obviously these are important, but I'd rather decide the context myself while staying focused on a number equally if not more important issues (constitution & an out of control activist judiciary branch that now attempts to make law instead of interpret it). As to my own make-up, I'm a mongrel from the Caucasoid grouping. In relation to the skewed results of this survey, you might find that some categories (i.e., Native American) are more popular. For example in my experience (which shall remain nameless ;) ) I've found many individual "wanna-be" NA's. People of such persuasion may attempt to check more than one category, or an inaccurate category as they often desire that their Native pedigree be noticed.

One result of this poll is really puzzling me!

Only 9 (NINE!!!) THR members are negroes, black, colored, african-american (or whatever).

Why is this?

Colored people in Africa or elsewhere are not shy to own and use weapons. Just look at Africa (Ruanda, Angola, Kongo......) or South Central LA.

But most african-americans seem to have a problem with the legal ownership of firearms.
