My S&W is super excellent now!

Bought a model 64, found out it had a timing problem.

Went to the FL state IDPA match, talked to the factory rep. He gave me a phone number and who to call. Made the call and spoke with someone from their CS department - talked IDPA some and the fella offered to clean up the trigger for me when I mentioned it may become my new SSR gun for IDPA.

After getting the label, I sent it up to S&W. Took about a month to get it back, but when it came home it had the absolute best damn revolver trigger I've ever felt in my life. Dont get me wrong, its still an 8 pound break but its so smooth it hardly feels like it. The SA breaks with no travel at a clean 2.25 pounds.

All in all, I give S&W an A+.

Total cost to me, the user who bought a used workhorse K frame from a friend: $0.

"Smith&Wesson does have great customer service."

Like any organization they have their ups and downs. I took a S&W M63 to them a few months ago for some work and was very satisfied with what they did. Of course, I had to PAY for mine, but that was what I expected so I can't complain.

Dukofurl, it sounds like you just saw the other side of the proverbial coin, with your good relations with S&W. I contacted them the other day, to see if they would have a better set of grips to fit a 629-3, 1 in 1000. My 629-3 came in a beautifull cherry wood case and looks great, all but the grips. The grips that come with this somewhat special revolver, are the uglest, flat sided grips I have ever seen from S&W. Their suggestion was for me to go to aftermarket grips, as they did not have grips available. With as many N-frame round butt revolvers that they make this seems like a poor answer to a customer, that had paid as much for one of their revolvers as I did.

The problem with the rare guns is that finding parts for them is an absoulte bitch.

I'll tell you right now - If you go to a gun shop and ask the gunsmith "I need a part for a Colt Gold Cup Commander, the 4.25" National Match barrel", you're going to get some STRANGE looks. They'll probably tell you something incorrect.

Anyways, I'm not suprised that they dont carry a grip for such a rare gun - many manufacturers dont make supplementary parts for quote unquote obsolete firearms.

There are a few good aftermarket sources for grips, PM me and I'll get you some info.

Time frame seems to be role of dice. Sent two in same package recently, one for non-warranty repair (old gun needed timing adjusted), other with it I had called on for warranty work, they said "911 service" warranty work comes first anyway.. blah blah..

Two weeks later my nonwarranty non-emergency gun was back fixed perfect totally free of charge, coming up on 5 weeks later the one I really need is still sitting there with no word other than "Thier working on it" both times I called:confused:

Quality wise seems same way. They did a great trigger job on a 65 I sent them, year later they did a joke of a job on a 19 of mine.
