Mini-14 bolt came apart

While in the middle of a mag. Something caught my eye (not the brass.) Was part of the extractor...looks like quite a few pieces are missing now. After comparing what I've got in front of me and Rugers exploded diagram I am missing everything but the bolt itself and the firing pin. So I need the ejector, ejector spring, extractor, plunger, and extractor spring. :(
Will ruger send me these parts or am I going to have to pay them for it? The way I look at it is something is wrong with it when your gun falls to pieces while shooting.
I never have really studied it closely, but it looks like the extractor may be what holds all the other pieces together, because when it went, so did everything else.
Help!?
One very confused and somewhat put off Mini-14 owner (like thats anything new)

I agree it wasn't a good thing. But, this happens to all guns. You will probably have to order these small parts. As a matter of fact, you should have an extra set on hand at all times.
Consider it a lesson in preparedness.

If the extractor broke the parts will fall out.

Explain what happened to their phone-service people and ask them how they can fix it. They might suggest you send them a bolt and/or the whole gun and they'll make it right. This is based on past experience with Ruger.

If you send the bolt or the entire gun in for repairs, I'm guessing Ruger will do the repairs free.
They've got a really good service dept.

Ruger has beyond excellent customer service. Just call them at 603-865-2442 in Newport, NH and they will work with you to either send you a new bolt assembly or they will have you ship the rifle to them for repairs. If you express some concern that the bolt may have caused other damage, I wouldn't be suprised that they will want the rifle back to inspect and fix anything they find wrong.
Shipping will be on their dime, too!

If you send it back to Ruger be sure to send it in it's original condition.
There have been cases where people have sent in a Mini-14 in an aftermarket folding stock and gotten it back in the factory stock.

If i remember correctly you must send the entire rifle because the bolt must be factory fitted, why i don't know.

Yep, Ruger will make it right. The extractor broke on my Ruger P-89 pistol. I called Ruger and they had me send the gun. They repaired the gun (new extractor) in a one month turn around. I think that is good service and all for free.

Under the circumstances, I think Ruger will replace the parts for free.

Wolf ammo, by any chance?:)
Call Ruger first. You can also get these items from Brownell's or Gun Parts Co. You'll need three hands to put it all together if you do it.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I will give them a call, and if I have to send in the complete rifle I may just buy the parts and take it to a smith near here. Talked to the guys at the local gunshop and they told me they could probably do it themselves, as well. 'Course I'll give it a shot myself first. Sometimes I surprise myself with what I can do. Plus wont have to wait for turnaround, either.
Lee N. Field, I feed my gun a little bit of everything, and yes, the day I was shooting it was with Wolf..well, Brown Bear, but its pretty much the same stuff, no?
Thanks again guys,
Maurice

i thought i had pretty bad service with ruger this last monty and a half. i sent my .22 in because the rear sight dovetail was not machined correctly and the sight was canted. i paid 30 dollars in shipping to have them put on a new rear sight and say that its fixed. its not.

I have delt with Ruger service in the past. Their people are from the pit of hell. Just yesterday, I ordered some spare parts. The girl on the phone could not have been more rude if she tried.

I once broke a Mini-14 extractor using Wolf, 's why I asked. The classic case-stuck-in-chamber problem. The extractor broke trying to pull it out, and all the other bits you mention went missing. I only use brass cased ammo now, on that gun.

FWIW, the same thing has happened on M14 clones and even (though very rarely) on M14 and M1 rifles. The extractor holds the other pieces in, so if it comes out or breaks, the bolt disassembles itself.

What Jim says. It happened on my M-14 (civie) w/GI bolt.

So....
While we're at it, can you fine gentlemen recommend a decent, inexpensive brass cased ammo for my mini? I shoot the crap out of it, so I dont want to spend a whole lot on plinking ammo.
Thanks,
Maurice

Hmmmm, another broken gun when using Wolf ammo? But what about those guys who only shoot wolf in their guns?

Yellow box UMC. Shoot up a bunch of that to accumulate brass, then reload.
