The Sig FAQ says Sig switched to a stainless slide but at what serial# range? Anybody have a good guide for Sig Ser#'s?

You might want to try www.sigforum.com ... not sure of the exact serial numbers, but you should be able to tell with no problem on a visual inspection.

You don't need a serial number range to identify them really.
They look very different
The sheet steel slides have a breech block which is a separate piece pinned in by a roll pin completely through the slide.
The stainless slides are one piece and have no such pin.

And Sigforum is not feeling well this afternoon.

So, a stainless slide would have NO pins whatsoever?

Sigforum is very slow, since yesterday.

There's still the firing pin bolt through the slide, but it's slightly different than the pair of roll pins on the stamped version. Also, all P229 slides are stainless I think.

A stainless P226 slide has one pin, above the decocker. Not sure about the 229.

I will second the motion that I *think* all 229 slides are milled stainless, but not 100% sure.

All P229 slides are indeed one piece made of stainless.
It was developed specifically to handle the pounding of the .40 S&W.

FWIW in my opinion, all stainless slides on SIG P229's
seem "top heavy"; while the stamped sheet metal
slide of the P228 balances perfectly!

all 229 slides ARE stainless and make the gun top-heavy

all stainless slides will not have the separte breechblock or the double roll pins (the pin in the same location will be solid). the stainless slides have shorter cocking serrations on the slide
