I remember an old ad from these cats in Houston. The made a bunch of 1911 pistols and an M1 Carbine... and I remember them having an M1 Garand too. I'm interested in both the M1's.
Are these any good and is this company still around?
I googled for them but couldn't find them.

George,

I happened to do a search a few days ago and couldn't find anything. I hope somebody contradicts me but I think they closed shop. :( It would have been nice to send them back a gun for some work (nothing wrong with it, I just wanted a conversion job).

I've had their site bookmarked for a while but they don't seem to update it very often. I'm not sure about the quality, but they have a link an American Rifleman review of their M1 Carbine.

Clayton Smith, located in Texas is suppose to be a good Garand maker, according to posts I've read. His turnaround time is/was @ 8 months. I e-mailed him at: Texasordnance@hotmail.com. Telephone: 915-517-0592. Or you might check this Garand website: www.jouster.com.

I don't ever remember IAI making M1 rifles... carbines, yes, rifles, no...

Re Clayton Smith @ West Tex Ordnance... I'll let you know how he does soon. He called me yesterday to tell me that my M1 was re-barreled, re-parkerized, and ready to ship back on Thursday (today!!). He's only had it since Tuesday a week ago.

That's pretty quick turn around time.... ;)

Now, bear in mind this was a "metal only" job, no wood work at his end, so I don't know how long he'd take on a full rifle build. I'd guess that it would not take that much longer.

Best to all,
Swampy
