Is this a MIM problem??

I was shooting my Kahr K9 from a padded bench rest. I looked down and the front sight had broken off where vertical meets horizontal. It seemed extremely odd to me, since the gun has been well cared for. I have to assume this was a poorly formed mim part. However, I don't really know. Does this explanation make sense?

I cant say for sure about your problem, but ive seen MIM parts that have snapped for no apparent reason. If i have a choice,i avoid MIM parts like the plague!

I'm no fan of MIM either, but this is a bad assumption. The phenomenon of broken parts is far older than the MIM process, y'know.

My HP front sight snapped at that exact point and it was (allegedly) machined from stock, not molded. The sight base gets stressed as it is pushed into the dovetail cut in the slide which can apply a slight torque to the base of the sight. Over time, the stress causes a fracture along the weakest point (where the vertical part meets the horizontal part). VERY common on HI powers.
