Kosher or not?

Guess I will move this here:

OK, I am not really sure where this goes since this pertains to shotguns and pistols, but here looks like a good choice.

I saw a barrel for my T/C contender that I want for grouse, quail and ferral chickens. It was an 8" 44mag barrel that somone rechambered for .410. It still has the riflings but they marked it "410 only" The price is <$100.00 and it is in a shop that I respect a lot and am certian that they would not knowingly violate the law.

But...

If you modify a short barrel so that it will only shoot shotgun shells, doesn't that make it a "short shotgun" and therefore not cool as far as the ATF is concerned?

Thoughts?

I believe that if it still has the rifling then it is in effect a .45 Long Colt, that can just so happen to shoot .410 shells.

If I take an AR-15 and write 'FULL AUTO' on the barrel, does that make it illegal? It is what it is...

Engraving '.410' on the barrel was stupid, though.

The ATF will answer your question for you, just write them!

It isn't a smoothbore, so technically it's still a handgun regardless of the markings, and legal, though FWIW, the rifling won't do much for your shot patterns. As noted, the AFT folks will setttle it for you if you care to ask.
