This is what happens when you have a little extra cash and a bad case of mall ninja-itis. Can't wait to try this puppy out. It's my BBQ/nightstand/range gun. Or CCW piece (on Halloween).

One of the tangs on the right thumb safety broke off, however. I don't think it was broken when my local shop first received it, though. Hmmm. I emailed Springfield Armory about it today, and I'm sure I'll be getting another thumb safety in the mail soon. I filled the hole with a bit of foam in the meantime.

Haaaiii-YAH! :D

Very nice. I love the full-length dust cover of the Operator. Where'd you get those grips?

Too cool for school.

A friend of mine just picked up a loaded Operator with the M3 for, get this, $625. It was a consignment but the thing was brand new. Not a round through it.

Cool gun. Better trigger than my stock loaded Springy, but nothing compared to his Series I Kimber Royal.

How's the trigger on that TRP?

PS: You should talk to Christine at Simonichknives.com and get a set of Gunner Grips for it. They're perfect for that thing.

I've seen those Gunner grips. They look pretty grippy (a good thing), but I liked the look of the Carbon Creations grips a bit more.

Man, I can't get the darn smile off my face. :D

Oops. Sorry, GRD, missed your question. The trigger is a very crisp 4#. Over at 1911 forums, a couple of guys had bad triggers on their TRP Operators (something like 8-9# pulls), but mine's great. I have a Loaded that's been worked on by my local smith. It breaks at a clean 3.5# after I tweaked the sear spring. I'll prolly tinker a bit w/ the Operator's as well.

Very nice. I love the full-length dust cover of the Operator. I'm sure the added weight helps with recoil, and it does look good, but it ruins the press check for me.

Just shot it yesterday. About 150 rounds of S&B, AE, and WWB. I was getting five-shot 2 1/2" groups at 50 ft. offhand (about as steady as I can hold lately), and I was hitting my 10" steel plate about 80% of the time at 50 yds. This pistol is more accurate than I am, that much is certain. I'm a happy camper.

The gun's HEAVY. Works great for recoil, as you can imagine. The front checkering is sadistic after about 100 rounds. I'm gonna shoot it til I get calloused fingers, however. No malfunctions at all, even w/ the Shooting Star mags that came w/ the gun. I did change the recoil spring to a Wolf 18.5# variable--heard the stock spring was a little stiff.

Still bummed about the right thumb safety, though. And the gas vial in the front sight is slightly off-center. Just nit-picking. Gonna call Springfield to see if they'll make it right. They oughtta, for the $$ this pistol cost.

Pistol's gone. Springfield didn't want to ship out a safety, so they had me send them the whole pistol on their dime instead. I listed a couple of other minor things I wanted them to look at, since it was gonna be gone for about four weeks.

:(

TRP Operator, I hardly knew ye....

Heh heh. Maybe it's my soft sissyboy hands, but it only took 7 shots for that iron maiden-like front strap to do a waffle pancake pattern on my fingers :o . Heck, just holding the thing tight for a second hurts. And it's a tad heavy. . .but man o man, that is one nice pistol and easy to shoot well. :D As I freely admit, I'm a sissy but this gun is worth the pain to shoot ;) .

You know, I was gonna call you and tell you I thought of a name for it: The Iron Maiden. Great minds and all that, eh?

:D

Regarding the Iron Maiden front strap, I suppose if you are gonna build a gun for an "Operator" you shouldn't mess around; you should just go ahead and do it. The needles do what they are supposed to do so the design is right. But since it's your gun and not mine, and since it's also your BBQ gun ;) I don't wanna risk bleeding on it :what: .

But wouldn't it be cool if I had one, too (we are, of course, dreaming here. . . )? I could shoot it 'til I bled and it'd be like a badge of honor. . . :D
