Anybody pick one of these up? If so what did you think. The price seems right. Comments anyone.

one45auto April 23, 2004, 11:49 PM I don't own a Model 65, but I do have a Model 64 which is essentially the same gun only chambered for the .38 Special. Mine was a used police trade in (as I suspect those are) and it's become one of my all-time favorites - in fact I use it for my bedroom gun. Nice balance, tight lock-up, and a smooth trigger. Considering that I paid $200 flat for my 64 at a gun show four years ago, I think purchasing a 65 today for only nine dollars more is a steal. Go for it!
S_O_Laban April 24, 2004, 10:09 PM Thanks for the reply, I went ahead and ordered one so I'll report back after a range report with it:D
one45auto April 24, 2004, 11:57 PM I don't think that I'm going out a limb here by predicting in advance that you're going to love it. Trust me. ;)
To tell you the truth I'm half tempted to buy one myself, but considering that I already own a Model 64 I really can't justify purchasing a virtually identical model simply to have it in a .357 - especially when there are so many other models that I'm yearning to own.
dinosaur April 25, 2004, 04:47 AM It's a good house/truck/car/boat/plinking/serious carry inexpensive S&W! What's not to like?:D
Preacherman April 25, 2004, 07:21 AM Please let us know its condition, and how it shoots. I've got a Model 13 and a Model 65, both with 3" barrels. If these are in good condition, I might just get one and shorten the barrel to 3" so that I have a stainless pair. (No comments from the peanut gallery, please! :D )
Stainz April 25, 2004, 10:08 AM I bought one of the 3" 65's from them several weeks back. I was a bit shocked by the scratches and dings - some along the topstrap and most around the trigger guard. The barrel & cylinder bores were excellent - the innards were dry and looked new! The rubber boot grips were well worn and round-filed here. I had several round-butt K/L frame grips here to choose from. My wife wanted a 65 Lady Smith, so I put my goncalo alves Hoque monogrips on it, after buffing and Flitzing the SS, of course. There are still softened remnants of a few deep scratches & dings - but it looks great. I lubed it and dry-fired it ~ 1,000 times - re-cleaned & lubed it. It works even better now - very slick. -When I get more low power Wolff hammer springs, it'll be still better.
Don't be shocked about the condition externally - mine, an '88 vintage, was apparently carried a lot... perhaps even used as a wheelchock... it sure saw little 'real use', however... good for me! It shoots slightly low with .38 Specials or equivalents at 15yd. I am well pleased... less than half what a new 65LS would be... gotta find a better magic marker, the 'Lady Smith' I wrote on mine to 'trick' my wife came off with the Hoppes last night when I cleaned it again. Seriously, a decent deal.

armoredman April 25, 2004, 10:30 AM LOVE Smith wheelies - no bucks right now.....:banghead:
S_O_Laban April 26, 2004, 02:43 AM Thanks for input guys, yea at this price whats not to love??
Preacherman, excellent idea on chopping the barrel, I would have preferred a three inch barrel ( quite a bit more ideal for CCW) but I'm looking at several airweights for CCW. Ahhh... so many guns... so little money:D
Stainz, thanks for that info, I try and give mine a similar treatment.
