been looking for a used stainless 357 snubbie and found one today at a local proprietor for $300.00.... thinking pretty seriously about it but my gun trader book hits it about $250 - any opinions

A couple of years ago, I bought one for $270, and then had another one appear for $250. Last month I picked one up for $270. I've always found North Texas cheaper than my neck of the woods.

I'm assuming he wants you to haggle?

Offer him 270.00 OTD,i think 300.00 for a used SP-101 is a little high
unless it's like new.

well... thought it was a bit high and he would not deal... so i was weak and did it anyway.... i live out in the sticks and have a range set up so i just fired it and all is ok... both da and sa - so at least i didn't buy a broken gun!

i was a bit concerned about timing, etc... this is the first used wheelgun i have bought... will carry for a few days and see how the weight, size feel is. either way i think its a quality piece and plan to keep it for awhile. usually carry a glock 27- but was looking for lighter and slimmer- might still be looking:(

Your Ruger is a great gun. It is the heaviest in it's class, but if you don't mind that, it helps deal with recoil in stout loads. The factory grips are really nice, but if you don't care for them their are lots of replacement choices available.

Ruger has good customer service. If problems arise, (That would be a surprise, really.) they will be happy to deal with them expediently and usually free of charge.

SP-101'sw around my part of town rarely sell for less than $300. All the 'em that I've ever seen have been in like-new or NIB condition, and I would't regret spending that much on one. Rugers are 'hell for stout', and well known for being well-nigh indestructible.

Since you just found us, I would suggest you check out The Firing Line (http://www.thefiringline.com/), the immediate predecessor of this place. The Firing Line set the standards by which all forums should be judged, and boasted of some 17,000+ members before it shut down. The High Road is a direct successor to The Firing Line, and our standards and membership strive to continue the grade of quality established there. Most of the current membership here migrated directly, and like myself, find that The High Road feels like home.

Although it's shut down, I pointed you at The Firing Line because it's still available as an archive in a familiar forum format. You can use the search function to find a TRUCKLOAD of good information about your SP-101, as it was the subject of lots of people's interest. Take a look. You'll see a lot of familiar names from this place. :)

One advantage of buying a used sp101 is that they rarely if ever have wear related problems. They are very close to unbreakable in normal use. If you paid a little extra it won't hurt in the long run. I couldn't find a deal on a used one in my locale so I bought a new one on sale for $345 -$360 i don't remember the exact price. Used ones weren't much cheaper and I couldn't find a 3" used at all. There is also <therugerforum.com/> You will find THR very useful.
