I am interested in acquiring one. It will be my first 1911 and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this particular pistol.

Not familiar with the "Night." Springfield did release a pistol a few years back that they called the "Eclipse." IIRC, it had a moon logo on the slide and a tritium dot in the front sight only. Is that it?

I think it had a commander length slide and an officer's size frame.

I think thumper nailed it,if i remember right it also had a matt black finish and rubber grip panels.

That is it. Anyone heard anything about this pistol? Any info would be appreciated. Mine fits that description exactly. They said it was night. It is all black and has a tritium front night site with the moon on the side. Any idea as to the value?

G29...I bought/owned a used SA "Night" 1911 with the markings described. Mine was a matte, full sized, lightweight alloy model with "Night" on the slide with a half moon design (IIRC). It shot and ran just fine. It was my first 1911, so I didn't give it much thought...apparently SA made different sizes in the "Night" line?

There were two "Night .45" models" made by Springfield Armory and distributed by Lew Horton. They had alloy frames, tritium sights, Videcki triggers, and a matte finish.

One was full size, the other was a compact model with an Officer's Model grip frame with a 4" barrel.

I had the compact version, in excellent condition, and I traded it more or less even for a stainless Combat Commander. That put it around $500 or so at the time, which was about five years ago.

Mine was very accurate and fed everything I tried in it.

The auction says the blue book is $750. 300 were made in 1997. Hogue grips and night sights along with the other features.

That is it. It is the commander length gun. I am very new to 1911s. I paid 550 for mine LNIB. It doesn't appear to have been shot. Is this gun something that would be worth using as a platform for customizing? (ie. is the frame constructed well, slide strength.) I appreciate any info.

I have one of these in the compact size, and it is hard to find info about them. I bought mine about 2 years ago from an internet auction site. I think I paid around $650.00 all told. This has become my favorite handgun. It has fired everything I have tried in it, accurately and smoothly. Even with its light weight it handles recoil very well. I have the wraparound rubber grips, but am thinking of replacing them. It would be purely a cosmetic thing, because the grips are very comfortable and functional as they are. I love this gun and would like to read more comments from others who have one.

I had trouble with mine feeding HPs. I sent it back to Springfield and they installed a ramped barrel and re-anodized the frame. I put 50 or so rounds of HP through it, and probably about the same amount or LSWC reloads. It functions great. I have the rubber wrap around grips, but replace them with a set of crossed cannon grips.

If you email your serial number to Lew Horton, they will give you info on the gun. According to the email I received from them, there were 417 built like mine. I don't remember the dates though. I'd have to go check the email.

I'd love to some trigger work done to it, and fresh sights installed. With the light frame it would make a great carry gun. The problem is it's just to damn pretty risk scratching. Mine is a safe queen. :)

Archer, what size grips did you buy? I really like the way yours looks with the wooden grips.

They are just the standard Springfield grips. They are on Ebay all the time. I paid about $50 for them.

They really make it look nice (IMHO).

The nightlight, even though I don't really care for springfield 1911's the idea of an alloy framed full sized gun like this is interesting.

Who else makes one, I think Para does but with the double stack mag.

actually i was (of course) mildly joking. The Computer was bought so that my wife and I could enjoy playing our favorite on-line game together, and we decided on it back when we found out the amount if the stimulus check. and while tempting (even as far as my wife going "Damn THAT is a fine looking pistol"), returning the computer isn't in teh cards :)

I love guns, but i love my wife and enjoy doing things with her even more.

It's a great gun, I just don't use it. I could use the money for something else. What I don't know, yet.
