DENVER (AP) - Democrats are furious about a statement by Republicans saying that comparing one of their candidates to presidential candidate John Kerry would be worse than comparing someone to the Ku Klux Klan.
The dispute started when The New York Times inadvertently published a photo of Republican Senate candidate Pete Coors above a story about a KKK member who murdered a black sharecropper. The Times published a correction Saturday.
Cinamon Watson, spokeswoman for Coors, said the error was "so outrageous it's kind of funny. It could have been worse. Pete could have been identified as John Kerry."
Chris Gates, chairman of the Colorado Democratic Party, demanded an apology. He said Democrats are "out there campaigning positively on the issues, and the Republicans can't help but resort to the lowest level of insult and name-calling." Like calling GW Bush "shrub" for the past 6 years maybe?? Gawd what hyprocrits these Dim-o-Rats be.
Kerry spokesman Phil Singer said the comment was "the kind of thing people hate about politics."
Coors, head of the Coors brewing empire, is seeking the Republican nomination to fill the seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, who is retiring.

As usual, no one is allowed plain speak. The Times positioned a picture of Coors adjacent to a KKK story involving brutality. Implication: GOP = KKK. A planned mistake, I'm sure.
The GOP then states that this is not as bad as being mislabeled as sKerry. Seems harmless enough. But then it gets twisted by the twisted. Now it is a comparison of the benevolent utopian leader to the KKK.

Obviously, someone surgically removed Mr. Gates' sense of humor and replaced it with a big serving of Liberal Outrage(tm).
Again, the wisdom of Poochie is appropriate for this situation.
"Well, you can cram it with walnuts, ugly!"

Yeah. Right. Inadvertently. No doubt about it.

WHat are the chances that this was a mistake based on your knowledge of publishing?

Excerpt from Bushwhacked, by Molly Ivins:
…
As we reported in "Shrub," when GeeDubya's company, Arbusto, was in a terminal cash crunch, Uzi showed up and paid $1 million for 10 percent of a failing company valued at $382,376, according to the company's financial statements. In other words, Uzielli paid $1 million for $38,200 in equity. Bush had changed the name of Arbusto to Bush Exploration after his father became vice president. (GeeDubya says arbusto is the Spanish word for "bush," although Cassell's Spanish/English Dictionary translates it as "shrub," the source of one of GeeDubya's nicknames.) By the time of the corporate name change, Arbusto had drilled so many dry holes that West Texas oilmen called it "are-busted." Mr. Uzielli lost his entire $1 million investment but later told reporters he didn't regret it. He described his investment with Bush as "a losing wicket" but said "it was great fun." What a sport.

Feb. 18, 2003 | Syndicated columnist Molly Ivins is the rarest of political animals: a smart liberal who can make you laugh. She shares Texas roots with the president she nicknamed "Shrub," and her bestselling book, "Shrub: The Short but Happy Political Life of George W. What, there's somebody that actually reads Molly Irvins tripe?? Well, that's a total of 2 (including herself).:D

Got the "animal" part right. Just like the Dem mascot. (Please help. I want to use correct terminology. Is the correct terminology for their mascot just simple ASS, or is it JACKASS?? ):D
Actually the decision by Peter Coors to run for the Senate seat being vacated by Ben Nighthorse Campbell has made the race at least interesting here in Colorado. Everybody thought Bob Shafer was the "heir apparent" and the Dems had been ginning up their machine and composing strategy to run against him. Suddenly Pete Coors tosses his hat in the ring and the GOP and governor endorse him. Threw a major knot in the Lib's panties.

After thinking about this little tempest, I think Kerry's supporters managed to look like professional whiners (I know it's redundant, but work with me here).
The best possible response was, "After careful consideration, I'm quite sure that Mr. Kerry's snowboard will spend more time in Idaho next year." But the CO Dems brought out the Outrage!(tm) and the Mud-Slinging!(tm) charges, and now, they've backed themselves into a corner. A lot of lefties have a very difficult time laughing at themselves. I guess it has something to do with Very Serious Work(tm).
Outrage!(tm), Mudslinging!(tm), and Very Serious Work(tm) are trademarked by the Democratic National Committee. Not for use by the GOP, Karl Rove, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Hugh Hewitt, and other members of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, Inc. Not for use against Democrats, members of the media or academia. Do not expose to logic, cold water, or Happy Fun Ball(tm). Did you know that John Kerry served in Vietnam? Any unauthorized broadcast of these terms without the express writen consent of the DNC, Major League Baseball, and Martha Stewart will result in excess nasal discharge, spastic colon, and an unexplainable attraction to sheep.

Probably about halfway between zero and none. The New York Times is fraught with all manner of errors, the vast majority of which should be caught by competent copy editors; mysteriously, however, errors of this sort invariably win giggles from leftists.

Hmmmm . . . a good response from the Coors camp would be to scour the Lexis/Nexis and other databases to see if Kerry ever said anything good about Sen. Robert Byrd, who actually WAS a Klansman. Then throw that back in the faces of the Colorado Democrats and see how they backpedal . . .
