Many moons ago an indian brave, on the threshold of manhood, set out on a journey alone into the wilderness as was his tribe's custom. When he returned he would be welcomed back as a man.
Through the many forests he walked and across mighty rivers he swam. With each new obstacle, he became stronger. He came upon a mountain, taller than all the rest, so he climbed it. Up and up he went. It became colder and colder. He shivered in the frigid air but yet he persisted until he reached the summit.
There he stood and looked down on the world which stretched in all directions at his feet. Suddenly, he noticed a rattlesnake coiled at his feet and he jumped back in terror. The snake did not strike. It was nearly frozen solid.
The snake said to him, "Take me down from this mountain for I will die if left here."
The brave replied, "If I do, you will bite me and I will die."
"I promise, I will not bite you," the snake hissed.
Convinced by the snake's word, the brave picked up the snake and placed it beneath his coat. He carried it back down the mountain to where it would be safe from the cold mountain air.
When they reached the valley later that day, the Indian brave removed the snake from under his coat. It promptly bit him.
The brave fell in wide eyed amazement, "But you promised you wouldn't bite me!"
The snake hissed back, "You knew what I was when you picked me up."
And so my fellow American gun owners, something for you to think about come election day.
