What do the esteemed members of this forum think about a marriage between the Civilian Marksmanship Program and the various Volunteer programs that the Prez. has been pushing sinc 9-11?
To the best of my knowledge, the one item the Prez. has not endorsed or recommended is Firearm Training in his volunteer promotions. (Surprise)
I know that The CMP already has some excellent training programs, and think that by combining their expertise with the presidents programs a better trained civilian poulation would result. Additionally, Firearms would again take on their proper role as an ultimate defense against threats from without or within.
Any comments?

I like the idea. The problem is getting somebody in the government to act on it.
Personally, I think instead of Eddie Eagle in our schools with their "Don't touch, tell an adult" slogan, we should have lessons on safe gun handling, thus removing the mystic of firearms and teaching respect for them. Safe gun handling should include live fire.

Why mess with the CMP when it works fine now?

Why mess with the CMP when it works fine now?Concur. I would prefer the CMP stays out of general knowledge for the politicians. If the BoxStein twins, Shumer, Hillary, etc. find out about it they will try to shut it down.
