I'm looking for some comments on the Browning BAR in .30-06. (I'm not talking about the military automatic rifle, but the sporting arm.)

Are they accurate? Are they RELIABLE? Are they durable? How sensitive are they to dirt, etc. and malfunctioning?

Would they be reliable enough for hunting dangerous game (in the U.S.), if needing a fast follow-up shot?

How much is an all Belgium model worth, if found in EXC. condition?

Thanks for any help,
Steve

Dang, I was just going to say, 'Kirby says it's A-OK.'

I have the BAR MKll in .338 WinMag. It has been 100 percent reliable. Recoil is less that a bolt action .308.

And with good handloads, it will keep five shots in one inch all day long.

Rugged? Hell, it's built like an Abrams army tank!

IMHO, it is the finest hunting rifle made in the world today.

I like it so well that I'm considering getting a second BAR MKll in .30-06 or .308.

But bear in mind, it is heavier than most bolt guns, if that matters to you. (It doesn't to me)

Try it, you'll like it!

My early BAR .30-06 deer rifle shot into an inch and an eighth at 100 yards with Remington 150 grain Core-Lokt rounds when I got it. Thirty years later, it still does. It has taken deer, antelope, bear, and one unlucky coyote. Nice rifle.
