My son's AK-47 has a suspect trigger. It overtravels to the point it won't return. It is also loose on the pin. Are replacement ***'y available and simple to install? The local gunsmith turned up his nose and said he knew not where to get parts. For a rifle with 40 million extant?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks:D

You can purchase a competition-grade hammer, trigger, and disconnector from Brownell's (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=9843) for $80. It should eliminate your overtravel problem and may even improve accuracy.

Red Star offers an adjustable trigger that is reported to be very nice---thinking about one for my AK. Think they can be found on the Power Custom site---I've generally been seeing them for $89.
CDNN has european take-out FCGs for $9.99---but that can get you into a legal mess---depending on what AK you have---and its configuration.
Red Star also offers a plate that takes the place of the shepard's hook--makes FCG replacement a 10 second job. Think the plate is like $12.

www.rpbusa.com sells the FSE made trigger groups for around $30ish I believe if you don't want to spend the extra money to get the fully adjustable Red Star setup (by all accounts the best trigger available...) Shouldn't require a gunsmith to change unless you are just really worthless with your hands. Takes me like 10 minutes to change all the crap out.
Probably nothing wrong with the trigger group in there, I'd examine it and see if maybe the shepards hook has slipped off and the trigger pin is walking out a bit or something...

Do yourself a favor and order a shepherds hook replacement from RSA when you decide to change out the trigger group parts. It takes 15 seconds to put the new part in and saves you a lot of aggravation messing with the wire/spring.

The Gordon Tech FCG is really nice, it smooths out well after 30-40 rounds or so.
RSA makes a nice setup also, you can sometimes find them on sale in the $68 range.
Value wise, you can't beat the G.T. trigger (its like $35 or so).

Hammer/trigger/sear sets are everywhere. That gunsmith might need to turn in his credentials or maybe he's just being intentionally obtuse.
At any rate, the above sources should be good.
My personal favorite is from Kvar:

The ones with the "US" in the description are US-made, since I assume you need those to be domestic parts.

Heard a lot of good about the Red Stars, but it's all second-hand info.
