What kind of pocket holster??

If you've seen some of my posts, you'll know why I ask this question. Looking at a lot of styles of pocket holsters for the 2 inch SP101, I see there's kinds that cover the triggerguard, kinds that also cover the hammer spur, kinds that have a flat flap to break the outline, and kinds that have leather projections that are supposed to catch on the pocket corner and help strip the holster from the gun at a draw. Some just look like a half of a pistol rug. What works for those who carry this way? Or do all approaches work to some degree and all is a compromise? I can't keep spending my money to check things out by mail too much longer. Thanks.

My favorite is the Galco model PH118. Sometimes I use a Uncle Mike's. Once in a very great while, if I need an extremely thin one, I use one I made out of a plastic milk jug. I've been looking at the DeSantis Nemisis, it looks like it would be a good one for not much $.

IMHO the SP101 is a little on the heavy side for pocket carry. Don't get me wrong, I love the SP101, and I carry one on a regular basis, but mine is in a pancake holster on a Dillon gun belt. For pocket carry, I have a S&W 342PD, in a Don Hume pocket holster. Don Hume aren't the best holsters, they are very stiff, but they are decent value and seem to be durable. A good pocket gun should not have an exposed hammer. Much too difficult to draw under stress.

IMHO the most important thing to be concerned about with a pocket holster is whether or not it stays in your pocket when you draw your handgun. I've tried several that came out on drawing, but two that work for me are the Galco and the Desantis Nemisis.

hmmm pocket holster for a sp101...?
something I can weigh in on....lol
Ruger Sp101's are a bit on the heavy side for pocket carry...Can it be done?? Of course...
1st problem however...To stay in the upright position the "stabilizer" fin has to be wider than normal...This decreases the options you have in regards to what pants it will work in...
RON in PA,
the problem with pocket holsters coming out with the pistol is relatively easy to fix...take the pistol and wrap it in a ziplock bag and shove it into the holster for 24 hours...problem solved..
most times when we "fit" a holster we make it a little tight on purpose...This gives it a chance to wear in somewhat...Remember it also has to HOLD the revolver in the holster as well as being easy to remove...:D

Toolmaker,
We've made a number of holsters for the revolvers. If I can get ahold of an SP101, I'd be more than happy to make you one. You can view our styles on our website, www.kdholsters.com Or if you have something else in mind, let us know, as we're one of the few holster makers who do true custom work.
Proper molding of the leather holster to the gun is essential for ease of draw. There's different levels of retention for different folks - some like it fairly tight, others a bit looser. You certainly don't have to use two hands to pull the gun out of one of our holsters though. It's relatively easy to adjust the tightness/tension by simply using warm water and saran wrap.
Feel free to contact me at leathercraft@hotmail.com if you have any questions.

RJ Hedley or Ron Graham have made all my pocket holsters. I'm well satisfied. RJ is very concerned with putting out perfect pocket holsters and shipping them to you quickly. It's amazing really. I've received orders in less than a week.
