Today's Equivalent of WW-WAP?

In semiautos, I had great results with Winchester's WAP powder, but it's now discontinued.

What is a good substitute for that one? It gave velocities not quite as good as today's Power Pistol from Alliant, but was also very low flash. It metered well and gave consistent velocities. Burned fairly clean, but that is NOT all that important to me.

I've tried a bit of Universal Clays but the accuracy wasn't there. Calibers I'm interested in are .40 and 9mm. I really want low flash without using the overpriced V-V powders.

Ramshot Silhouette.
Some say it IS WAP, wholesaled from St Marks Powder (ex Primex, ex Winchester.)
It is at least no 39 on the Ramshot burn rate chart, WAP is no 40.

I'm not sure about the low flash part but Power Pistol would be in the right range. Blue Dot has a LOT of flash but is otherwise well suited.

Try a pound of Winchester Super Field. Tops for accuracy for me in 9mm and 40. The performance is with Power Pistol, and extreme performance with very little flash is Longshot territory. I have not had any problem getting nice shooting loads with Unversal though, and I have burned a lot of it. Kinda surprising to hear you did not get the accuracy you wanted.

Ramshot Silhouette is WAP, the load data from ramshot is identical. Look at the 9mm, 10mm, .45 acp data same bullet, same speeds, same barrel length and same pressure (not close but identical).

With a name like Silhouette, how does the Ramshot powder do in .357 Mag. and other higher-pressure big-case guns? Using 125-gr bullets, WAP spiked pressure long before I was where I wanted to be.

I use the powder for warm low flash 10mm and 9mm loads only.

From the Ramshot website;
If accuracy and consistency are important to you, Ramshot Powders will definitly take you to the top of your game. Just as long as your game ain't spelling. :neener:

Good one! I'm a former PR guy with lots of news editing under my belt, so misspellings like that drive me nuts too.

Did you see Dave Barry's column Sunday? His problems with understanding foreign tech support workers over the phone r tcbl to th Dlcmptr crp if you read closely. That's Dell Computer Corp... Dfnitly a problem for ndrstanding!!!

Almost; Silhouette was 'improved' with better flash inhibiter and high-temperature deterrent.

If one can ignore the flash Power Pistol is superb, and as an added benefit can function with great results in many revolver cartridges; WAP was (still 'is' for me; I got furniture made of cases of WAP) crap in wheel loads.

Ramshot is a welcome addition to our powder list.

That said, I most prefer 3N37 in my personal 9x19 stuff, and Power Pistol for much of my 40 work.
We're talking IPSC; social ammo is a different post.......
