I have a Rossi .38. It shoots pretty well, actually, for the short barrel and barely-there sights. I've been told the frame is the same as a S&W J frame. Is this true? My CWP is on the way and I need a holster.

Greeting's Red My Friend-

My wife has a Rossi 88 (I believe ?) stainless, with a 2"
barrel. and it works well in a Safariland leather holster
made for a 2" Smith & Wesson 36, 37, or 60 "Chief's
Special". I can't address the issue for longer barrel
Rossi's, cuz I simply don't know?

Red-

My wife's Rossi must be the older model 88, with
the matte stainless looking finish, and with the
square butt configuration fitted with wooden
grip's.

Take the gun with you to the store to check out holsters. The Rossi is not exactly the same frame size as the S&W. Grips, for instance, will not interchange. The holsters for an S&W of the same barrel length will probably work fine.

Thanks. Mine came with rubber and wooden grips, I'm using the rubber ones and like them a lot. I was just wondering about the holsters, in case I order one instead of buying one locally. None of the local stores have a good selection at all.

I don't have any experiance with the new Rossi's but checked out a .38 a while back. Anybody have any experiance with these guns in .38 or .357? It might not look as nice as a Smith but it seemed to have a fairly decent action. Any comments?

Hi, I purchased a Rossi M971 .357 SS 2.5" last year after the wife bitched that I sold " Her" revolver ( My Ruger security-six ,that she use to shoot ). I shoot .357 thru it all the time ,but the wife only likes .38's . Thats what it is loaded with next to her side of the bed . For $190 OTD this is a great weapon. about 250 .357 and around the same in .38 down the tube and the gun is still going ! The rubber grips fit our hands well . Sure go S&W or Colt for resale value , but for a home defense weapon Rossi fits the bill for Us . ..........WVleo
