Am I the only one that would like this?

The attachment. Basically, I just chopped the barrel off of a super redhawk .44 and pasted the smaller GP-100 grip on it. I would love this in 44 special. I'd be all over this. It would be purchased immediately.

I agree, except I'd want 3-4" barrel (preferably 4"), and chambering in .44 Special +P. That would be a perfect home defense revolver, for my needs. I like the Cor Bon .44 Special +P defense load, and in a large frame revolver like that it would be easy to handle.

Think I'd prefer a GP-100 in a 5-shot .44spl w/ a 3" bbl. Be a little easier to pack than a Redhawk frame.

Nice pic, though...:D

Just my opinion, but putting a stubby barrel and a short grip on a brick only succeeds in making a stubby-barrelled, short-gripped brick. ;)

Like Golgo-13's hilarious sigline points out, Ruger apparently thinks that no honest man needs a handgun smaller than a canned ham. :D

Interesting, what a massive snubby! But I'd prefer this, a Super Redhawk with a Redhawk barrel.

I know, my photo editing skills are sub-par, but I'm glad to see the general point got across. Why are my only options either small and medium frame .357s or massive .44s and above? 4" barrel .44 would be great. 3", 2-1/4", anything would be nice in addition to those anvils that are Redhawks.

Well you could split the difference and get a Taurus Tracker 41 Mag. :)

Rather than a chopped SRH, why not a .44 caliber GP-100? I've always felt that the GP-100 was a .44-size and -weight frame. It'd be a bit smaller than the SRH snub, which equates to more carry-able/managable, and holsters and accessories already exist.

The only sacrifice would be one round of amunnition. But the 5-shot snubbies from other makers seem to be doing fine sales-wise, and the Ruger would be able to withstand magnum chambering, although the shooter might not! That strikes me as a good size-efficeint combination, and I wish Ruger could be convinced to produce it. The closest thing to it right now is the Taurus Tracker .41 magnum, but I am a firm believer in"bigger bores are better". I'd buy one in heartbeat.

You could do an SP-101 in a ".41 Special" chambering. (If you were really bored... :D )

Tamara, if you're going to customize the bore size, and it'll fit the cylinder, why stop at "special" pressures? Why not go all the way to .41 mag? No funky custom ammo requirements, and I think the Rugers are certainly built stout enough to handle it. It would help to justify the Ruger's chunky frame.

Of course, recoil is another issue, but the Tauruis snubbies aren't unshootable by all accounts, and if one is willing to entertain the idea of manufacturing .41 specials, one could more easily construct down-loaded .41 mags.

Whatchya think? Too boring? ;)

I wonder what it would take to turn an SP-101 into a 3 shot .50 S&W....

Just think how much you would save on .44mag ammo

...as a box of 50 would last for 3 or 4 shooting range trips!!

On my previous post, I forgot to add...

Think I'd prefer a GP-100 in a 5-shot .44spl, .45 Colt, or .45ACP w/ a 3" bbl. Be a little easier to pack than a Redhawk frame.

Don't want to leave the other little guys out... :D
