I want a nice .45 Colt double action revolver with a 4" barrel, in a sort of "Mountain Gun" configuration. I doubt I'll ever run across another Smith 25, so what are my options? I could have the 6" 25-5 I own converted and shortened; I only paid $300 for it, so it's not like it's a collector's item. Besides, I'm never going to sell it, so I don't care about resale value.
Could I have the barrel shortened? If so, by who and how much?
Also, I read in a post that someone had a Super Redhawk in .454 Casull modified so that it could fire .45ACP in moonclips. I'd like this done to my 25-5 as well. What all would be involved in such a modification?
There are a few other things I'd like done. I'd like the gun refinished and the barrel chrome-lined, if possible. Any suggestions? Should I do all of this to the Smith or just buy a Redhawk and make it the Guinea Pig?
Thanks.
