I am looking to get a Taurus Raging Bull in either a .454 or 44mag. I went to their website and found out that they are MIM made. Does anyone have bad opinions or bad stories about the gun ? I always wanted to have a relvolver in my collection.

I only have one experience with a Raging Bull, a friends gun in .454. The bad news was it spit bullet jacket material like crazy. Even the shooter wasn't safe from shrapnel, so I'm not sure if it was a timing problem or something wrong with the porting.

The good news is Taurus fixed the problem for free and its fine now.

I had a blast with my .454, recoil wasn't bad either. The only complaint for me was the ammo price. :)

The only one I've shot is my dad's 45Colt version. It's a great shooter. The DA trigger is a tad heavy, but smooth and even all the way through the pull. It's accurate too. We shoot at bowling pins set at 100yds. It's not much of a chore to hit them with Cowboy style loads. Even with hunting loads, it's a pussycat to shoot. This is probably due to the porting and the weight.

I'd buy it from him if he sold it :D

Between the porting, weight, and the funky grips with the orange doohickey, recoil is, well, I won't say "pleasant", but it's not as bad as you'd think.

I have personally observed two come back to a gunshop with rear sight breakage (earlier in history).

IF I were buying a 454 Casull DA revolver to SHOOT I would buy a Ruger SuperRedhawk.
Just me.

Weshoot2......if you look at some of the posts around here and other sites, a lot of the redhawks went back to the manufacturers also...........

I'm a Ruger fan too, but my dad's RB feels better than any Redhawk or Super Redhawk I've ever handled. I'll admit, I've never shot a Redhawk or SR, but the trigger's weren't nearly as smooth as the one on my dad's RB. It would be a tough call for me.

I have four Redhawks; the 44 went back (300g @ 1800fps; one shot :what: ).

IME the Taurus revolvers (and some of their autos) are NOT the 'best' choice.
One of my daily 'always' is a Taurus; dichotomy?

Opinions? Okay.

I had both the Raging Bull .454 and the SRH .454. I still have the SRH.

My Raging Bull was functional with a tolerable single action trigger and decent accuracy. But:

1) Two of the chambers were finished poorly.
2) One of the chambers had more flattened primers than the other four. Since this chamber also spat lead with .45 Colt loads, I assume it was slightly mis-aligned.
3) The manual for the Raging Bull lists maximum loads for the gun that are below the cartridge's peak performance.
4) The porting created a muzzle blast and fireball that far exceeded that of the SRH. Not to mention the colored front sight may as well have been black since it was blackened after the first shot anyway.
5) The SRH was much prettier. The gray finish kinda grows on you. Like a gray mold. ;)

The first two probably could have been fixed by a trip back to Taurus. Items 3, 4, and 5 were the real reasons I got rid of the gun.

The SRH in 454 are pretty sweet. And Ruger use super strong metal in the 454 versions.:)

Still have a scar on my arm from a brand new Taurus Raging Bull that spit lead out the side last summer. Went through my jean jacket.
