I lost 60 lbs! I went from 270 to 210 since the first of Jan. I don't have to worry about printing like I used to and I can even wear an IWB holster comfortably. Finding baggy shirts is not a problem, I own a bunch them. :D

I've gone from 380 to 290 (at present) with a variant on the Atkins diet. Don't eat sugar.

I have done 280 to 200 over the past 13 months or so - and still going down while I work on training for a marathon next year.

My biggest change was eating until I was no longer hungry instead of eating untill I was full. I still eat the same things, just less of them. I didn't start working out until I had dropped about 40 pounds... And it does make a huge difference for CCW work.

How bout an all-out weightlifting session once a week at the gym, plus walk a half hour to an hour every other day?

All-out weightlifting session: try to get on at least one of each kind of machine or lifting station in the gym. Start with a low (lowest if you're a newb) weight or level of resistance, press 12 reps, rest a minute while increasing the weight/resistance 1 increment, press 12 reps, and keep repeating until you reach a weight where you can only press 4 reps. Taking creatine with lots of water helps.

Oh, and BTW, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I'm sure that took some dedication and discipline to achieve.

Your body needs carbs and sugar so don't cut them out altogether. Just don't overdo it.

Also, anyone that does use creatine should take the water advice VERY seriously. Not drinking enough water when taking creatine can lead to serious kidney damage and possibly death.

Congratulations!!! :D

I have found out the same thing - droppping some weight really makes carrying IWB much, much easier. I haven't lost as much... went from 220 to 198 and still dropping. My goal is 180.

Keep up the good work!

I went from 210 to 167 last year, and have been holding steady since Thanksgiving (also Atkins). It sure made carry easier for me. Plus, womenfolks tell me I look cute now! :)

Advantages...

1. Better concealability (You got this part).
2. Run from threats faster.
3. Smaller target = Harder to hit.

Disadvantages...

1. Lack of body fat to help slow down/stop bullets before reaching vitals.
2. Less belt length to hang uber-tactical gadgets from.

:D

I went from 165 to 145 in one semester just from cafeteria food. does that count for anything. too bad I can't carry.

Better tactical advantage in that you don't weeze like Fatty McGee after taking the three steps from bed to bedroom door.

Your body needs carbs and sugar so don't cut them out altogether.

Wrong.

If you don't eat fat, you get sick, and if you continue to not eat fat, you die.

If you don't eat protein, you get sick, and if you continue to not eat protein, you die.

Ever notice how many folks in "health food" stores look really, really bad?

But if you don't eat sugar (carbohydrates essentially become glucose when digested, some just slower peaking than others), you don't die. In fact, you tend to have an increase in lean body mass, while at the same time losing fat stores.

Look at the science. And don't trust Atkins - Look at texts on how the body actually works, etc... A diet with a lot of carbohydrates tends to promote weight gain, and that weight generally ain't muscle... It also causes, after a time, a sort of "maintain the sugar buzz" change to one's system - pre-diabetes, where you eat, you crash, you eat again, etc., all of this flogging your pancreas to produce more and more insulin, which ends up producing more and more weight. Researchers are just now re-realizing that excess weight is not a CAUSE of diabetes, but a SYMPTOM.

NOTHING hacks me off so much as hearing from folks I know who are diabetic or pre-diabetic that their doctors/nutritionists TOLD them to eat rice, potatoes, etc...

If time comes where I have to defend myself, I wanna be in shape.

Sorry I couldn't respond earlier. I am on the Atkins Diet and I love it. I intend to lose about 15 more pounds and then gradually ease off of it some.

Then I am going to look for an IWB holster for a S&W .50 cal Mag :D :D

I have lost about 40 pounds since the end of February on the South Beach Diet. It is low carb like atkins but not so high fat.

I started carrying my Ruger P90 IWB last week. And I have still gained 3 belt notches, I could probably go 4 without the Ruger.
