Duke of Lawnchair

Kimber?!

What Kimber?

I thought you were the cat with the Valtro.

45R
April 29, 2004, 01:36 PM
No Valtro here. (Though its a pretty nice peice)

I'm that cat with the Kimber Custom II Target. Probably be packing light for this trip. Digital camera, 2 pistols and 10/22 (if Combat Wombat shows up)

If anyone is shooting rifles I might bring the Night Stalker.

BTW Skunk you forgot to post the dates :)

Friday June 4 - Sunday June 6

ANDREW WYATT, SVEN, PIPSQUEAK, QUARTERBOREGUNNER, BLACKMAJIC, are you guys still in?

Duke, I think you're thinking of Sven, I think he has the Valtro (?)

CombatWombat, your parents are invited, too. If they don't want to camp, they are still welcome to have sushi, shoot, BS, etc.

Duke of Lawnchair
April 30, 2004, 03:34 AM
Duke, I think you're thinking of Sven, I think he has the Valtro (?)

We shot someone's Valtro 1998 while we were up in Sacramento.

I'm sure of it.

May 1, 2004, 03:25 AM
Copy...will ask for a 3rd spot (2 cars per spot).

I paid the deposit, we don't have to pay the rest till we get there, me thinks.

Duke of Lawnchair
May 3, 2004, 02:47 PM
Skunk,

How much is the deposit?

Jim

Amadeus
May 3, 2004, 05:48 PM
How much? What can we bring (rifle pistol?)?

Let me check with my secretary/girlfriend to see what we have planned that weekend. I would love to meet and shoot with everyone.

Combat-wombat
May 3, 2004, 06:21 PM
Dammit, I'm sorry but you'll have to wait on this one. My computer is taken away for at least a month and I can only post when I'm at school like right now. I'm really not sure if we can make it, just a big maybe.

QuarterBoreGunner
May 4, 2004, 01:54 AM
DAMN DAMN DAMMIT!!

I'm out. A good friend's wedding is that weekend... in Napa. I'm in the wedding party so, yeah, I think they'd miss me.

And I was just driving through this area this last weekend coming back from Las Vegas, thinkin' that it'd be nice for a camp/shoot.

Take a lot of pictures so I can see what I missed out on.

Skunkabilly
May 4, 2004, 05:29 PM
Dangit QBG I was really hoping you could make it.

CombatWombat, no worries you probaby have more internet access than I do at the moment.

Budget roughly $20/night per vehicle.

I think the spot was $22, then $6 for the reservation fee, $7 for each addt'l car.

Right now we only have 3 vehicles and 2 spots, so that'll come out to about $20. I don't have the exact figures in front of me....

Of course if we're having sushi, bring more money :D

Combat-wombat
May 4, 2004, 05:41 PM
Yeah, the shoot might be off, for the same reason my computer's gone (don't worry, it's not explosives-related this time).

Still, I might be able to make it if I beg hard. I mean, my parents said it was definitely "NO" last time, but whaddya know, I made it. This time it's not "NO", it's just "probably not".

And if it's it's a yes, I'll try to drag my mom along if she's not working. She needs to be exposed to the "gun culture" and discover that it's not toothless hicks, but computer programmers and techies, and people who like sushi. My mom would DEFINITELY spring for sushi, and she knows the best places in the area.

kool
May 4, 2004, 05:57 PM
my parents would say sometin stupid like oh you cant go because you'll get shot i try and tell them i wont it can't happen :cuss: :fire: :banghead: but no they will then again say sometin stupid. so next time.

I can go, ride situation dependent.

any special requests as far as guns go? (i'll see if dad'll let me bring the m-1a) , but i am for certain bringing the number4mk2 , my mossberg, my 20 gauge, and my 1911 (and maybe my model 37 and pre model 10).

Do you want me to bring my mini-14, skunky?

do y'all need target stands for your cardboard targets?

I'll bring some steel to shoot if you'd like. (if you want to shoot the steel, don't use any ammo that pulls a magnet)

Combat-Wombat,
What did you happen to have done this time. What on God's Green Earth did you do this time to get your PC taken away! Keep me posted on your status. You need to get out and shoot the 10/22. You need to get out and eat raw fish. You need to get out and enjoy the smell of burnt powder. Tell you parents those are Doctors orders. Exercise and sunlight does a body good. IE our hike!

BigBlueEyedDevil
May 10, 2004, 11:20 PM
I have a cover on my Ford, so I'll be sleeping in the bed.

Still looking for any takers on the M1 Garand. I haven't shot any battle rifles, SKS, AR, Garand, etc...Anybody have anything they wouldn't mind me taking a couple shots with? Tyler

Duke of Lawnchair
May 11, 2004, 02:16 AM
BigBlueEyedDevil,

I'd be offended if you didn't want to shoot my guns!

There won't be any shooting at the campsight. We'll be heading to the San Luis Obispo Shooting Range off of HWY1.

I haven't decided what to bring just yet, but chances are I'll be accompanied by an ar15 and m1a.

Unfortunately, an M1 Garand doesn't reside in my stable, yet.

Duke of Lawnchair~

Thank you very much for the invitation. The only semi-auto rifle I have shot besides my 10/22 was an M1 Carbine. The M1a sounds very exciting.

Are we going to put somebody in charge of food or will there be a list to follow or is it going to be B.Y.O.MRE.?

Duke of Lawnchair
May 11, 2004, 04:50 AM

http://www.geocities.com/slosportsmen/

The above link is that location of the shoot. Be advised there is going to be a IDPA shoot Saturday moring that starts ~9am on the Hogue Action Range.

The shooting fees are $5.00 per person per day for SLOSA members and $10.00 for non-members. Memberships can be purchased for $25.00 per family per year. The daily fee includes a paper target, target stand, and use of all accessories to bench shoot. Paper targets can be set from 7 to 300 yards and there are steel gongs on both rifle and pistol sides up to 755 yards!

Hearing and eye protection are required and can be purchased or loaned on site. Shooting bench rests, spotting scopes, sand bags, and other accessories are available for no charge. Additional paper targets, some ammunition in popular calibers and shooting accessories are available for sale.

Duke of Lawnchair
May 12, 2004, 10:12 PM
Folks,

There will be an IDPA shoot, like 45R said, but is limited to the Hogue Action Range, ONLY.

The rifle and shotgun ranges are separate entities.

Jim

Skunkabilly
May 13, 2004, 02:33 AM
IDPA should be over by the time we get done hiking and have lunch....

>> Could someone recap all the gory details again? <<

I have irritible bowel syndrome and the smell of cheese makes me nauseous. I also do not shower.

>> Where in San Luis Obispo? <<

Santa Margarita Lake.

>> How much to bring? <<

$20 a night for camp fees (estimate)
I'd budget $20 per meal, because you never know. You may want to brownbag it for the drive on Fri evening to save money.
I don't know how much range fees are but I'd budget in $15.
I'd budget $60 for gas.

>> What is the campsite like? <<

Civil-like, so it appears.

>> What if you don't have a tent and can just sleep in the car instead? <<

That's what I'm planning on doing :o

>> What kind of terrain is it to the campsite/area? Could a lowrider make it in? <<

I don't know....I think if you're White, Black or Hispanic, it may make it, but probably not if you're an AzN Type-R.

You know how to keep Asians out of your neighborhood? Speedbumps...

I'm IN. I'll see if I can bring a wife or friend, but I won't count on it. I'm thinking Saturday AM arrival (unless I can carpool with some other SoCal-ers?).

Century eggs are the greenish/black eggs.

I don't know what the red shelled eggs are called. The eggwhite are very salty, and the yolk is very oily.

What are the duck eggs everyone is talking about? Is this the boiled, almost hatched duck eggs? Yum...yum.

Filipinos call the red ones "itlog na pula" and duck eggs "balut." Very yummy, and you can usually get them in most of the better asian food stores.

Probably not very good for your heart though.

Oh, I tell the people new to balut to eat them in the dark - you really don't want to see what you're eating... although you may bite into a feather or beak or two. :D

Frohickey
June 2, 2004, 10:47 PM
Yeah, all 3 egg delicacies are yummy. The almost-a-duck balut is best when its still warm though. The salty one is good if you have rice or some other to accompany the salty taste. Century egg is the least tasty of the 3.

Hey- It's probably a go, can't say I'm 100% sure, but...

We're having company over on Friday night, but my dad is willing to drive me over to the campsite so I can hang around and discuss tacticality with y'all. I'd stay the night (Don't worry, I've got a tent and camping gear), and then we'll do whatever in the morning- depending on the hike (how hard and all), I might opt out because I'm a lazy, out-of-shape fatass and I'd slow you guys down. Whatever

We could work out some carpool arrangement to the range, and my dad would meet us there.

I mean, if you guys don't like the thought of a minor tagging along, that's fine, but I've got everything I need(I'm so tactical) and my dad would accompany me during the actual shooting. I just like to get to know the faces of THR. You guys have zero responsibility.

What up, dawgs! I'm home, finally. Stopped in Santa Maria and visited with my in-laws, ate Mexican food, had a nap, watched Sopranos and hit the road at 10pm. (But not before I checked the newest Big 5 ad for camping gear. Note to self: the pink and teal beach cabana does NOT blend.)

Skunky: How was that drive? They opened the 101 at 7pm. By the time I went through Gaviota, the fire was on the other side of the hills. But the power crews were out in force. Nifty. Thanks a mil for setting up the weekend, and for following up with me. You're all they say you are. Wikkity-wik! (Do I owe you money for the campsite?)

45R: You're like Ichiro Nagata with that new camera, yo. "Nice!" :D I gots to get me a .45 now. Thanks for driving.

Andrew: You da man. I'll be seeing you in BFL. You don't know what you've started.

wombat: If I had half your energy and enthusiasm (and command of knife-related minutiae), I might be somebody. Your parents have my sympathy. :p

Duke: Thanks for adding to my vocabulary, and for letting me drool on your AR. Tell Wendy it was great meeting her, and thanks for tasty grub. (And green tea. And bug repellent. And...)

To all: I can't tell you how great it was to meet and hang out wit' y'all. It just doesn't get any better than shooting, camping, RED MEAT, and hippie shows. Put me down for the next one already, and I WILL bring the missus next time. (And a whole mess of spanking-new tactical camping gear.)

The drive back was great. Next time I take a trip, I'm taking the country roads. I didn't stop to take pictures since I was in a hurry.
