They certainly seem to use the term loosely

Yes they use the term loosely do. I wonder what the bombs were made from and what the ammo was for? 10,000 rounds =< 20 bricks of .22 LR.

Anyone else notice the Drug Task Force pulled off this raid, but the residents were not charged with any drug crimes?

Just wondering....

10,000 rounds for which gun? That is a day or two at the range.

Well, minus the bombs, I guess I have an 'arsenal' too :)

I'm in NY working and saw this on the morning news. Checked a couple of different stations to see what the spin would be and caught the bomb info. I don't think this is ever going to look like the owner is the victem here considering even the NY Fox station pointed out the guy had nail bombs.

You're not alone. Invariably these guys get in trouble because they make bombs. The press just loves to point out what nuts they must be, because in addition to the bombs they always have some firearms and ammo--always an "arsenal".

I was always under the impression that the technical definition of an arsenal was ten guns with 2,000 rounds of ammo for each. Is that not accurate?

13 guns is an arsenal? I have 12 guns total (4 handguns and 8 rifles) and I'm not even 21 yet!

I don't think I am quite to 10,000 rounds of ammo yet, but I am getting there. And as far as the homemade bombs, I have a couple of those 1lb jars of gunpowder. I'm sure if some JBT raided my house there would be bomb making materials listed on the things confiscated.

Arsenal gets defined by whoever wants to put you in jail.

I know that other arrests for arsenals involved bombs that turned out to be dummy handgrenades. I guess that contractors don't use nail bombs to put up houses, so this guy is probably toast. A victim of his own stupidity.

what I find curious is you have 7 bombs and 13 guns, and 3 charges of illegal possession of a weapon. just seems like some odd numbers ot get to jibe.

Remember the guy in Chicago (maybe NYC) that made headlines EVERYWHERE about his arsenal? I think they quoted him as having about 15,000 rounds of ammo and were ready to crucify him for it. Well, on Dec 27, 1999, I counted the boxes of ammo I had and on that day, I had approx 47,000 rounds and about 25 or 28 guns.

I've since greatly reduced both for various reasons but for a guy that always looks at ammo for sales and picks stuff up all the, it's very easy to get a lot of ammo. I remember I bought about 5,000 rounds of shotgun ammo one year from Meijers as they were selling some Remington stuff SUPER cheap. I even bought 20 gauge and .410 even though I've never owned a shotgun in either bore.

I know the liberal media needs to feed us this stuff but it's like the accessory control on AKs... I mean, if you're sitting in McDonalds and a guy comes in with an AK, do you really care if there't a bayonet lug or not? Do you really care if he has 5 30 round mags or 20 30 round mags?

Or are you just going to be happy that you have your gun on you at the time? ;)

Jeez, if they looked in my ammo closet I'd make America's Most Wanted. NOT counting two large shelves full of .22 LR plinking ammo and the cases of shotgun shells stacked in the corner, I have almost 10K rounds of assorted stuff.

And I was wondering why the house was tilting slightly in that direction....

I wonder what they would call Preacherman's ammo cabinet(s)?

An armory?

Well, geeze, the "homemade bombs" were probably simple blackpowder filled tubes (ground salutes, like m-80s)

In fact, I'd wager quite a bit that's what they were.... as in 99% of cases when the media says "bombs".

I have a couple propane tanks for my BBQ grill and camp stove ... some may consider them 'bombs' too. Scary.

I suppose we should come up with a definition - like: Nothing equal to or less potent than a flash-bang grenade [which is obviously "safe" enough to throw into houses] can be called a "bomb" by police.

Still seems this ''Arsenal'' word gets ever over used. An Arsenal is where war materials are both manufactured and stored .. so, maybe in some cases when ''bombs'' are in the inventory it might have relevance. MilSurps are aometimes ''re-arsenaled'' - viz, remanufactured.

But .. when all weapons are basically small arms, then an ''Armory'' is the label for storage place.

Trouble is these days, the media has made some words all it's own ... arsenal is one ... ''assault'' is another and then ''sniper'' is maybe not too far behind.

All helps to maintain the instilling of fear in the uneducated and gullible masses.:banghead:

What law says it is illegal to own an "arsenal?"

Heck, I have one or two or three.

I even work at one....

"A man ain't got a collection until he's ready to arm a small 3rd world country by himself."

(So says my wife, after hearing my mom first say that about my dad) :D

Terrazo floors do a nice job of handling the load, though.

I'm tempted to call BS on the 'bomb' accusations. Being a teenager, i know for a fact i could make a small bomb using only the materials in my kitchen. I get the feeling that the "bombs" they were so terrified about were propane tanks or fireworks
