? about handgun carry in Alaska

Theres a cool 18 year old kid i work with who has the opportunity to spend three months this summer in Alaska with his Mom.He loves to fish and asked me yesterday if it would be legal for him to open carry a handgun while on his fishing expeditions up there.Hes concerned about wildlife and i honestly couldnt answer his ? The handgun in ? would be owned by his Dad.How would this go over up there?

Check out, or have him check out http://www.packing.org for all kinds of info on carrying firearms.

I 99% sure it would be legal in Alaska for an 18 year old to openly carry without an "adult" present. I see kids that age all the time with handguns even though they are prohibited from actually purchasing them by the federal law.
Check with the state troopers to be sure.
The only place where you can not openly carry a gun in Alaska is within the city limits of Anchorage.

Keith open carry is in fact legal in Anchorage..nobody does it (it would be kid of stupid to do it) but its legal...

I got that information about Anchorage from packing.org. According to them there is a city ordinance preventing open (not concealed) carry. Maybe that info is incorrect, though it hardly matters because I can't imagine why anyone would want to openly pack a hogleg in town.
