Citizen power might sweep away guns
by Holdthefrontpage staff
The Citizen has launched a campaign to sweep guns off the streets of Gloucester.

It follows the release of figures that show that gun crime has risen 35 per cent nationwide in the past year, with 47 guns seized in Gloucester in the last 18 months.

Citizen editor Ian Mean said: "Any self-respecting, law-abiding citizen will doubtless give full backing to The Citizen campaign to make Gloucester a gun free city.

"The facts scream out an urgent need for this goal to be achieved."

The campaign charter includes banning the sales of replica guns in Gloucester and introducing an education programme within schools to discourage gun use.

It is also calling for a gun amnesty, zero tolerance policing on new gun laws; for both real and replica guns, and a 'shop a gunman' campaign in association with Crimestoppers.

The paper's campaign is being backed by the city's councillors.

Conservative group leader, Mark Hawthorne said: "In response to increasing public concern about crime involving guns, and statistics confirming their use is growing, this council plans to work with police, schools and The Citizen to make Gloucester a gun free city."

In English: They probably had too much of that British beef, and now their brains are completely mushy.

(and just to get things straight: I own no white flags, but just happen to speak their language as mother tongue.)

So let me get this straight. England basicly passes all sorts of strict laws concerning gun ownership and pretty much bans them completely. Gun crime goes up 37% from before. So they feel the need to pass even MORE gun laws? :banghead:

Can't they see that it isn't working?

Will they have to cut off their thumbs and index finders next? [hand in pocket “stick ‘em up]

Rarely does a day pass when I fail to feel grateful to our forefathers for having rebelled against the English and founded a republic.

I think the English would have been happier as a Nazi subject state.

And once again we see the slippery slope in action. Once the opressive bans fail to work, the "liberal" folk will naturally assume that it failed for one reason: "The bans aren't restrictive enough, quick legislate more!!"

As usual, they will NEVER consider that it's because of their bans that crime has been rising. :banghead:

Gnull, as I'm sure you know, banning guns has nothing to do with controlling crime. They are only interested in controlling the people.

True.. They are just waiting for the "thought-crime" legislation to be enacted...

Ya' know, considering that England is under extensive video surveillance, gun crime should be down, not up. I guess that means that their big brother nonsense isn't working either.

This frightens me (and I think it should you, too) because, basically, it's a blueprint for how to mobilise society and community to be unthinkingly and unquestioningly anti-gun -- that's anti any sort of gun. To them, there is NO good or even "acceptable" gun ownership.
