Disgusting day at the range

I recently purchased a couple of SKS magazines from Cheaper than Dirt. I was pretty excited to go to the range and try them out. My daughter went with me and she was looking forward to trying out "the big gun". Well, the first magazine wouldn't even chamber a round, it just slammed it up against the bottom edge of the chamber. I tried my Dads' remedy and swore at it under my breath but it did not work. So I tried the other one. Success!, it chambered nicely, so grinning like a drunk monkey I got ready to fire. I pulled the trigger and the rifle went BANG followed by a clattering noise at my feet. I looked down and there was my new magazine laying there with a round pointing straight out like an accusing finger saying "you cheap SOB". I figured that in my haste I failed to seat the magazine properly, so I tried it again, this time making sure it was seated properly. BANG, clatter, giggle. The giggle came from my daughter as the magazine hit the deck. Three more attempts and I was through. Thats what I get for buying cheap gun parts. Never again. Any suggestions on where I can buy some good ones?
Oh, by the way, cheap SKS magazines make excellant .22 targets.:D

Tierhog .......... I bought a bunch of ten round mags from ctd for my mini 14 and while no, they dont actually work, they will skip as well as any flat stone across any small body of water and also make nifty one inch spacers around the shop.I also am looking for reliable after market mags.Any ideas?

My advice is to keep the fixed ten round magazine and practice with stripper clips. I havent seen many aftermarket detachable SKS mags that even met the definition of DECENT.

I agree, I've got 4 or 5 20 round detachables for my SKS and only one works halfway decent. I prefer using stripper clips and the fixed 10 round mag, it's actually faster most of the time because you aren't having to try and clear misfeeds

So far, there are no reliable removable mags for the SKS. Some you can play around with, some you just have to shoot. That's about it.

Yep.
Stripper clips and the original mag are the way to go.

First step to troubleshooting the SKS: remove crappy aftermarket mag and reinstall orginal 10 rounder.
There usually isn't a second step.

I used to have a 30 rounder that functioned flawlessly. I wish I knew what brand it was.

I have a 30 rounder that works fine, too. It's in a box somewhere in my gun stuff. Either just use stripper clips, or get an AK or AR.

Exactly! This is why the State of California, in its infinite wisdom, forbade the importation of the SKS with a detachable magazine-they want our weapons to work flawlessly.......:neener:
