M1897 Question

I am tired of sharing the family M1897. I am thinking of getting one that is all mine. I have seen both a 1906 take-down and a 1900 solid frame. Which one would be better for the occasional shooter?
I think I had better get one now before all of the (INSERT EXPLETIVE HERE) cowboy shooters find all of the remaining M97's and hack down the barrels.
There, I feel much better. Semi-rant over.

Takedown version, by all means.

most of the ones i've been able to find in decent shape (ie not so wore out they rattle like a string of cans on a gravel road, or rusted to H#!!) were already of a short barreled config, being either hacked by CAS shooters (a fraterity i used to, and may in future again, belong to) or and sursprisingly just as common in teh one's i;ve seen, cut down YEARS ago for either Personal defense or police work.
all the decent condition '97s i've seen still wearing full length barrels have been priced prohibitively high.
don't know what you local situation will be, just be aware of what might be.

I think the shotgun has never held the place in the American collective imagination as the rifle or handgun. A shotgun is the tool that stood behind the kitchen door or in the barn to take care of vermin or put something in the pot. Until CAS, then the SG got celebrity status, esp. ye olde M1897.
The most of em I see are clapped out like they laid outside for 50 years or so. A pristine one is a high priced prize. YMMV
