I'm thinking about purchasing a Ruger Bisley-Vaquero. Is there anything pro or con I should know before I buy? If you own one how do you like it?

Bullet,
I have and do own other Ruger SA's, but not the Bisley-Vaquero.
The only suggestions I can give are to follow the revolver check out suggestions on the floating thread on the top of this forum.
They apply to both used AND new revolvers.

Rugers are usually pretty consistant, so the only specific suggestion I would make is this. If you buy a .45 Colt have the chamber throats checked. Rugers usually run undersized throats. The effects of this vary from gun to gun. Some work great as is, some are horribly inaccurate. Mine was inaccurate and leaded like crazy untill I had the throats opened up.

I've had several BLackhawks and just bought a Bisley that I'm in the middle of a waiting period for :banghead: I was gonna pick up a Vaquero when I was thinking of getting into Cowboy shooting, but it passed and so did the Vaquero. I don't have much use for the Vaquero as I much prefer a high profile adjustable sight. If you're OK with the fixed sights then go for it as long as it checks out. The Vaquero is a blackhawk in different clothes, you shouldn't be disapointed.

My wife bought me one a few years ago. It's a great gun. Very accurate and easy to shoot.
Fun factor is quite high...

I have 2 Vaqueros in 44mag and like them immensely but do not like Bisley although many swear by them for heavier loads. I like the Dragoon style grip on the Super Blackhawk. So I ordered up frips frames from Brownells and will get them fitted.

The Bisleys, whether Blackhawk or Vaquero, have the Ruger Bisley grip, with the lower hammer spur and curved trigger. The New Model Blackhawk and Super Blackhawk have the same frame. The Vaquero models have the same frame with fixed sights. I have seversl Blackhawks and Vaqueros in .45 Colt and a Bisley Blackhawk, also in .45 Colt. The grip is a personal thing. I actually prefer the standard Blackhawk grip, but it is personal preference. If you are interested in Cowboy shooting, go to a match. People will let you try their guns and you can determine which you prefer.
