Is there any way to convert an AK charging handle to the type found on the GALIL? (IE a vertical handle that sticks straight up).

I think someone was making a new stainless steel bolt carrier that had the Galil style charging handle. I think I saw it at ak-47.net.

I believe Sarco is selling the actual knob and you could find somone to weld a lever to the carrier and the knob to the lever.

cool sounding idea.. what about a charging handle on the left (like a fal)? i guess it'd be about the same amount of work
anyone done this? im interested in seeing what it looks like. surely an advantage would be better if you could use your left OR right hand (if vertical out the top)
i wanna see one!

Hesse/Vulcan arms/whatever their name is this month makes a bolt carrier with a vertical handle. I am not sure of quality but it should be an easy part to fit yourself if the dimensions are off.
I saw a picture of it on their website a while ago, but I am in a rush and don't have time to find it again. Sorry.

Found it. http://www.vulcanarms.com/V47Rifles.htm About 3/4 of the way down that page under accessories.
Price appears to be $125. That is a lot for something of dubvious quality.

What WildAlaska says. Find a good welder. It'll be cheaper than dropping $125.
