Colt 1911 question...

This has been nagging at me since I saw it two gunshows ago...

It was a Colt Series 80 1911 with a Kart Barrel and Bushing, in stainless, but was marked at only $375... why would it have been marked so low? Everything else on the table was marked about the normal price so I ran from it... didn't seem right. Also, the beavertail had enough play in it to put a penny in between it and the frame, another reason I ran.

But I always think about it, how bad could it have been?

Also, the guy wasn't too helpful, he just said it had a Kart Barrel and bushing.

This is kind of a silly question. Without seeing the gun, how the heck can we know? ESP? :p

As for the barrel, the guy shouldn't have had to tell you it was a Kart barrel. Kart barrels say "KART" on them in big letters.

Probably smart that you passed on it. If the beavertail was fit that poorly, I wonder who did the bbl.

Some 'dremel jockey' like myself ;) , could have attempted their first bbl installation and decided JMB didn't know the proper feed ramp angles. :)

Probably best that you let it lay. The mis-fit grip safety was a red flag
that a butcher had been at the gun. No tellin' what else he might have
done that you DIDN'T see. The kart EZ-Fit barrels come with instructions,
but that's not a guarantee that the guy could follow'em.

Like old PappyTuner used ta say: "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is."

And then MamaTuner would follow up with: "If somethin' just flat don't
feel right...It probably ain't."

Cheers!

Should have pointed out the wonderfully fitted grip safety, offered him $150 and parted it out

That's why I ran! :D

The barrel and bushing did say Kart in big letters, but I couldn't check out the fit of the barrel since it had the safety zip tie thingy in it and he wouldn't remove it for a strip and check... :uhoh:

Though the frame and slide externally looked fine... I had no idea how it looked internally... "Hey, I thought 1911s had barrel locking lugs on the slide... :D "

Should have pointed out the wonderfully fitted grip safety, offered him $150 and parted it out

After such a helpful response to it in the first place, I didn't feel like pushing it anymore, ah well.

Maybe it will be there again and I will offer $150 :p

Don't be so quick to rush to judgement.
What kind of grip safety was it? My Series 80 Government Enhanced takes Commander grip safeties. A standard Government duck-butt safety leaves a gap.

However if you see it again just tell the seller that he is more than welcome to inspect your money just as soon as he lets you inspect his pistol. :D
