Okay so it's a "division" of Citizen Corps called CERT (http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/CERT/index.asp). Administered by the local Emergency Management and Fire Rescue personnel. They teach basic medical operations, fire fighting, search and rescue, etc.

First night, I met a guy who is an avid competitive shooter (3 gun particularly) and he has been giving me some handgun instruction which I am grateful for. It's not everyday you meet someone who has a "3 GUN" license plate, a liberty safe full of para ordinance, glocks, DPMS and remington gear who also has experience and is eager to provide instruction.

Meeting him is really making my volunteer time worthwhile, of course becoming a member of the Community Emergency Response Team (http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/CERT/index.asp) is cool too.

Odd. Good that you met each other. I tried to join. I have a CCW. I was not welcome.

Can you give some more info? I have helped with training for CERT teams. First no gun is required (likely not allowed but I didn't ask) Most anyone allowed to join but agressive folk who don't think before rushing in were suggested to rethink it. (situation was heavy smoke/hot door and they have two small 1A 10BC fire Ex. They chose to open door and (attack) fire.......
Congrats you gave fire air and now it is growing faster and injured must be ripped out. Course they are same pair that felt removing DEAD bodies was just as important as searching/removing to triage live folks. I dang near started a chant. (WE DON'T MOVE DEAD BODIES)
IMO it is a program that has possibilities. RIght now not worth much but IF some changes are made it could be useful. (yes I did pick up funky hard hat/vest myself. Course I mofified it so the dang stuff is useful)

I am retired. I have a great wealth of experience and training. I signed up on the Homeland Defense website. I was getting regular e-mails from them. I was notified when and where to show up for training. They took my resume and a copy of my brag book. They called and told me which agency was going to host training. Then I got a e-mail that thanked me for being interested but, there was no position available for me. I talked to some other retired LEOs and they figure it is because we all still carry firearms. I tend to go along with them.

One of the "rules" is that you can't carry a firearm, knife or stick that doubles as a weapon. What kind of crap is that? I just kept my mouth shut and figured my knife would be called a triage tool.

I think if you announced that you had a CCW, they would really get nervous and bring unneccessary attention and anxiety.

The 3 Gun guy and I just keep our discussions out of the classroom.
