i think im gonna buy a S&W mountain gun in 44 mag as my tax return gun. i really would like a 4'' performance center 629 v-comp, but the only one i can find is $1050, and im not about to drop that on a gun i would carry through the woods.
anyhow, i want stainless. i noticed there are several -x suffixes on the 629's. should i be looking for one in particular? i dont generally like internal "safety" devices.
anything else y'all can think of?

Check around for PC gun prices. I had a mountain gun for awhile, and fired exactly 108 rounds through it. It was just too painful to shoot.

A '-5' should be pre-lock, and a '-6' may, or may not, be. They are brutal with the Hogue's and full-house loads. Pachmayrs with rubber covered backstraps would help, providing your hand is large enough.

Just bought a 629-4 myself and am awaiting delivery later this week. Plan on using it for mostly carry and shooting 44 Specials in. I have several Rugers and a 5inch 629 Classic for the heavier stuff. With the Specials it should shoot quite nicely. Oh, and I do like the Hogue grips that came standard...seems to work nicely for my hands; but then, I have smallish hands.
