I was sorting out a bunch of used brass and found some with bulges about 1/16" from the base on one side , and also a ring around the entire base of the shell , I pulled about 25-30 out of the group of brass (300-400pcs) that where this way I looked at the primer and saw signs of flattening , the funny part is this brass was fired out of a S&W 686, not my coonan which at first i thought have might been the colpret (feed ramp ) its bulged out not in and its past the point of the sizer die . any ideas?? maybe brass worn to point of use?? I checked the cylinder of the gun in question looks all ok . I have pitched the brass since I didn't want any Kb 's this was the 3rd reloading in the mid range and it was all pmc .

Hmmmmm. You say those rounds went through a 686? I would take that gun out and fire a couple of cylinders full. Number the chambers first, then pull the spent brass and examine one at a time to see if you can trace the problem to a single chamber. Could be a defective chamber in your revolver. You're probably right to throw away the odd brass, just in case it may have been weakened.

Good advice above; check your gun(s).

Starline or Winchester.......
