Do you actually think CNN would allow a poll on their site to show anything but an overwhelming vote for extension? They even have a link to the Million Mom March right there next to the results.

CNN Lies. I've even seen bumper stickers that say that.

I saw it at sigforum. Vote and pass it on to any other boards that do not have a link up yet.

I voted.......wish there was a place to post comments though, I wonder how many of the people who voted "extend" are ignorant as to what AWB actually bans

Well, I voted for freedom, tho I'm convinced that, if the "poll" goes the "wrong" way, it will get adjusted... Damn scant honesty in CNN. Zipzeronada for ethics...:cuss:

Check out the link at the bottom of the results for rival groups argueing the ban. It has a single paragraph stating that there was a pro-gun rally near the white house and nothing more. I'll go back to Fox now.

BTW, CNN threads merged.

I voted but it looks like we won't likely turn this one:

Lifted 24% 7384 votes

Extended 76% 22875 votes

Yup, we are behind by over 15,000 votes. Too bad you can't win them all, but it isn't good to lose this badly on one that will likely be broadcast worldwide.

I can't vote for some reason. I think it is because the last time I updated internet explorer was.... ummm.... never. Dial up sucks.

Someone should post this over on ar15.com they have a lot of people that don't sleep.

"Extend the AWB" is crushing us with 75% or 25K votes.

On MSNBC this morning it was reported that about 2000 people were at the MMM rally while there were several hundred who were pro gun rights. That's about as fair as we'll probably see.

Interesting. Less than a couple hours after bpisler's note of a 24% to 76% separation, I'm looking at it and it's suddenly a 22% to 78% difference. That's a lot of votes that had to come in in the last hour to change a poll with this many votes that much.

May 10, 2004, 10:43 AM
Still 22% to 78%

The poll is fixed. It isn't counting lifted votes. I checked the # of votes before voting and they were the same after voting. I deleted my index.dat files and went back and tried again. Still didn't change. Deleted index.dat files again and voted to continue the ban. Guess what? It counted my vote. What a bunch of turds.

Oh. If you don't want to have hidden CNN cookies on you machine gathering God knows what information, don't forget to delete those index.dat files after leaving there slimy site.

So I found another machine at work and tested it there. I pulled up the numbers and it showed 35,668 vs. 128,957 votes. So I clicked my vote and it revealed the updated numbers: 36,076 vs. 130,622. In the time it took me to change pages and vote, supposedly 2,073 people voted. But waiting a few minutes and rechecking, the numbers hadn't moved.

I find it amazing that over 2,000 other people decided to vote EXACTLY when I did, then they all took a break.

May 10, 2004, 01:51 PM
It's still 22/78.

Maybe it's just updating every ten minutes or something, so your votes are being queued. It isn't necessarily rigged. It's certainly depressing, either way. I did my part, and can do no more.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't have seen that poll if not for THR. I'm pretty sure that there are far larger groups that vote against us. I've visited their forums, and they make ballot-stuffing a hobby. Also, they tend to be far less articulate than most of the posters on (at that time) TFL, and now THR. It makes me despair for democracy. Sometimes those aristocratic feelings well up, and I think that come people just shouldn't be allowed to vote. But I don't have a better system lined up, so I'll keep my trap shut.

PaladinVC,

I'm with you. Now the yo-yos (Peralta--Mr. AntiFirearms himself) in California are considering a 14 year old vote. Nothing like having Pavlovian consumers supporting your cause.

My brother is convinced that 90% some of the population is basically low on the intelligence scale. My term is 'monkeys in suits'--dress them up any way but they are still monkeys. Sometimes an elite intelligencia sounds attractive, but that has its downside as well. Read the story "Marching Morons" and others by the same SF author (whose name I have forgotten).

Now we're polling on whether the torture photos should all be released. Rats.

So, what do you think? I don't think the pictures should be withheld, but neither do I think they should be plastered all over every newspaper and television in the world. And you know that's what CNN wants to do with them.

Did anybody notice how the article refered to the AWB as a ban on "assault rifles" and that they talk about how the possibility of a gun being converted from semi-auto to full-auto made the "sniper" shootings in the DC area possible?:barf:

...when the site owners care for them to be.

Yes, I have inside information. No, there's not much else I can say. Sorry.

What is more interesting is that they've selected this topic for rigging, and tends to be confirmatory of bias.

May 10, 2004, 07:37 PM
Those results are not too far off other polls I have seen, and I am afraid might not be as rigged as you think.

I am afraid we are in a minority whether we want to be or not.

May 11, 2004, 07:21 AM
Honestly, is anyone really suprised? I know gun owners who are convinced the AWB outlaws machine guns. Let's face it, if you passed a law that made it a crime to serve your child Cheerios for breakfast and called it the "Child Abuse Prevention Act", 70% of the public would be in favor of renewing it without ever getting past the title.
