Having an example of each sitting next to me, the 98K just looks and feels like a much better crafted rifle (I just got it from CDNN this week and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet though). From the point of craftsmanship, I would have to choose the 98K. But just get both -- you know you're going to anyway.:D

M39 is THE Mosin variant to have. Mauser may be slightly superior as a fighting gun because stripper clips work much better with rimless ammo and it points better (for me, anyway). But M39 is probably more accurate and can be scoped almost as easily. Ammo is cheap for both. If I had to choose, I'd get the M39 now and a Mauser later (they seem less scarce).

They don't list them on the website. You have to download the PDF catalog. It's about 10 megs so be prepared if you're on a dial-up.

BTDT. I ended up with 2 M/39s, 2 Mosin carbines and about 5K worth of x54R before I knew what hit me. :uhoh:

I had to go buy a Garand just to keep them all at bay on their side of the safe!

I have several of each. I have shot both extensively. The M39 is so much better than the K98, it isn't even a contest.
