Help me out. My dad and I want to split a single shot 22 rifle for my nephew on his 12th birthday. Any suggestions? My dad has suggested a Steven's Favorite as he had one when he was a boy but I'm not sure of the quality on Savage's copy. My suggestion is a TC Contender carbine (cost?) as it gives him the ability to add different barrels to suit his needs. Any suggestions?

If you're looking for something cheap you might want to try the Rossi 22/410 combo.

I bought one for one of my boys when he turned 6. Nice gun. Reliable and accurate.

Good Luck,

Michael

I'd rate the CZ Scout .22 as the tops for a young man to learn how to shoot. But he may grow out of it prematurely.

My dad has one made by Marlin (I think it's called a papoose IIRC). Myself, 3 brothers, 4 nephews, and many cousins and friends learned on it. It's small enough that I can't hardly shoot it anymore, but it fits kids perfect.

We've put 1000's of rounds through it, never a problem, and I've got another nephew that's soon to be introduced.:D

Another vote for the little CZ.

I got my boy (10) a Marlin Little Buckaroo. He likes it and never a problem.

I agree with MaterDei. The Rossi is a dandy. (the 410 does kick)
It's surprisingly accurate.

The CZ Scout is also a great choice. Way accurate and you can get 5 and 10 round clips for it.

My son has both and I have shot both plenty. Pretty good starters.

The Rossi is a tad less convenient off a rest as it's a break open.

Based on my studies there are several good little 22 youth models out there and I would suggest you use the search function to turn up additional info.

Thanks for the help guys. I talked to my dad and he agreed that the Rossi "Matched Pair" might be just the thing.
