I'm in the process of trying to find a new CCW piece.

I currently have/carry a Springfield XD9. To say the least it is a bit big and bulky.

I'm trying to keep my budget at $550 or below. The guns that I am considering are:

Glock 36 .45ACP 6+1 $500
Glock 26 9mm 10+1 $500
SA XD9 Compact 9mm 10+1 $430???
Kahr MK/PM9 9mm 6+1 $475-550
Kahr P9 9mm 7+1 $500
Kahr P9 Covert 9mm 6+1 $500
NAA G380 .32NAA or .380 6+1 $409

My primary mode of carry will be either OWB or IWB and maybe some pocket carry.

Who's got what and how do you like it?

Steve

When my HS2000 is too obvious due to the clothes I'm wearing, like standard office attire, I pocket-carry a Kel-Tec P-11 with 12+1 rounds of 9mm onboard.

The XD is bulkier than the Glock? How much? Is it because of the grip width? What about the grip safety?

Yes, the XD-9 is bigger than a Glock 26. It's about the same size as a Glock 19, except the grip is smaller. The XD compact will be about the same size as the G26/27.

The XD is bulkier than the Glock?

?????Never said that, but maybe so.

I love my XD9, I just want something I can conceal a little easier. There is nothing better than the comfort of 14+1, unless it's in the truck and not with me.

I'm leaning towards either a Kahr MK9 or K9. I had an MK9 for a while and loved it, but it got sold in favor of another flavor of the month.

I'm trying to get out of the buying and selling, so maybe I should get another.

Also, I've been eyeing a K9 Elite98, that I can get for $350-375. I'm just not sure how it will conceal.

My primary carry piece is a Glock 26 in an IWB. When it gets really nasty (hot) outside and I'm wearing shorts, I'll most likely have an NAA Guardian .380. I would not pocket carry a Glock. I would be far too obvious. I also have a PM9 that I have used for carry (same MO as with Glock). I suppose you could hide it effectively in a pocket holster, but I'd chose not to. If you really like your XD, then I would suggest the subcompact model (that way, you'll have the same manual of arms and even the mags will fit (I don't know this for sure, but it would make sense). If you pocket carry, especially with the Glocks, Kahrs, and XDs, make absolutely sure that your holster completely covers the trigger (always a good recomendation with any holster) AND that you do not carry anything else in your pocket with the gun. The NAA is much more forgiving of stupidity during handling by virtue of its renowned 12 pound trigger pull, but I suppose there is somebody on this planet who will eventually have a negligent discharge carrying one loose in his pocket.

These compacts are certainly not what you would want to shoot day in and day out on the range, so I always keep a full-size around.

Of the guns that appear on your list these are the only two with which I have experience. So, I'll limit my remarks to them. For the purposes of this post I consider the G26 and G27 to be identical as far as form and function are concerned. They are both highly reliable, highly concealable, and pretty accurate. Particularly when you consider they both employ a short barrel. I prefer the performance of the G26 over that of the G27 but that is purely a personal choice - nothing more. I favor an IWB carry and use a Sidearmor with a J-hook. Easy on, easy off, and very, very light and comfortable to carry concealed. A pocket gun? Not for me. I want the 10+1 configuration and IMHO simply carrying in the pocket does not adequately cover the trigger of a cocked, Glock pistol. I have a lot of guns as I've been at this gun nut business for a long time. So, I can choose from a lot of carry guns in my collection. What I choose to carry is the G26 because of the aformentioned reasons. Hope this helps some. Good shooting;)

I have the G36, G26 (wife's) and Mk9 Elite. The G36 has developed a strange problem that will have to be addressed by a Glock armorer. The G26 runs really well. It's dependable, accurate and easy to carry!!! :D Ditto for the MK9, although it's a tad easier to carry, because it's thinner. I don't see what all the fuss is all about!! I've taken carrying a full size Walther P99. :D

NO DISRESPECT TO SPRINGFIELD OWNERS!

I hate to say it..but the new subcompact XD looks an awful lot like a high point 9mm...

Celtech,

Come on now, I know your a Glockie trying to get an XD owners goat. :D

Sure the XD Sub-compact ain't pretty, but Glock are renowned for their BAD looks.

With the big blocky slide I'd have to say the Hi Point more resembles the Glock........Just my opinion.:neener:

Of all the pictures below, I don't think any of them are pretty....

You can call me ugly but not my guns buddy!!!...J/K

I'd love to own a Springfield!..when I get some cash I think that will be my second to next pistol..I am craving a 1911...

I just dont like the bulkieness of the slide the subcompact XD..but you are right..now seeing both of them compared..the Hi-Point is definatley a horrid looking little pistol.

Celtech,

Must be the sunshine, I've got a serious case of the 1911 wants.....trying to sell an AR15 so I can get something fairly nice.

I do like my XD9, but I'm beginning to realize that it is not a carry gun. According to my caliper, it is 1.3" thick at its widest point.

My next purchases are:

1911
Kahr K9 or P9 or variant
Kel Tec P32

Should compliment my XD9 and S&W 629 Mountain Gun well.

Glock owners are an easy target for ugly gun syndrome....owned a Glock 23 for quite a while. Kinda wish I still had it...

I use my Glock 27 in a bladetech IWB whenever i can. Its thickness means i have to be wearing my baggy pants and its weight means i'm most comfortable with my nylon instructors belt. Whenever i'm concerned with flashing or when its hot and i just can't wear my 27 i carry a NAA .32 in a aherns pocket holster. Not nearly the same firepower class but i can grab it and toss it in a pocket with a spare mag without having to change clothes. If i was doing it all over again i'd probably consider the Kahr plastic sub 40 (mk40?).

Well, I made an impulse buy today.

Ended up with a slightly used Glock 27 w/night sights. Gun is like new in box, some guy upgrades weekly.

Paid $460.

I think I'm going to enjoy my new Glock.

congratulations gunnut. BTW you may want to experiment with your backup mags. My seondary has a "+2" extension which actually works out to a real +1 extension so i have a legal 10rd capacity and a little something for my pinky finger. Plus of course you can use G22 or G23 mags.

I have a Kahr P9 that I love. Very slim (thin), very light, and enough firepower for me. Very easily concealed under a t-shirt. Can almost forget it is there at times.

When I have to tuck my shirt in I carry a P-32 in my pocket. Do forget it is there at times. Kinda scary actually.
