Hi guys I have heard semi autos liike the browning bar will not shoot reloads. Is this true? If so why and is there anyway around this? thanks and any imput will be helpful.

If reloaded properly with the same case dimensions and powder loads it shouldn't be a problem, it's the funky reloads by people who don't know what they're doing that cause problems. Some companies say shooting reloads void their warranty because they don't want to be sued when some idiot has a triple-overpressure-load in their gun and the gun, not designed to take three times it's normal operating pressures, blows up and they get sued...

I shoot my reloads out of 2 semi-autos. No problems yet...

I full-length resize, and stick close to commercial loads.

Dave R mentions the big thing .... ''full length resize''. After that of course a safe load but one which will cycle.

I load 24.8 Vhit N-133 behind std ball 55gr fmj's for my Mini .. and they work well ... but if the charge weight is dropped much from this (all but max load) then it won't cycle reliably. It is way more accurate with these loads.

Well, yes you can reload for semi-autos. I happen to be learning the important facts about it for myself as I want to reload for my ar-10.

Basically, the important factors seem to be making sure to full lenght resize every time. To watch what speed powder you use for a gs operated gun so gas port pressure stays reasonable. And that semi-s with fluted chambers don't produce brass that is terribly reliable for reloading.

Because the semi-autos I own shoot nothing but my own reloads, save for the Ruger 10-22. Even my Browning BAR in .30-06 gets fed handloads. Although, that particular rifle has a chamber on the tight side of SAAMI specs, so it gets full-length resized brass with each feeding. ;)

If it weren't for reloading I wouldn't be shooting at all. Up here, there's no CMP or anything like it and there's little surplus ammo of any kind. Hasn't been for years. In 30 plus years, I've never seen case lots of .30-06 ball. Not once. .308 has dried up. As has any .303 ball. Factory ammo is horrendously expensive. If a shooter wants to shoot inexpensively, he reloads. Period.
So yeah, semi's shoot properly reloaded ammo no problem. .30-06, .308 and .30 carbine. No fuss. No bother.

I reload .223 for my AR, 30.06 for my Garand, and .30 Carbine also. But I am damn careful. Full length resize, meticulous case length measurement,
fanatical primer seating, and hand weigh each powder charge.

And, if they're still a little bit sticky after FL resizing, just get the optional small base resizing die. That's what they were made for.
