I bought a Simmons Aetec 2.8-10x scope in 1996ish. It sits atop my 300 Weatherby. I paid good money for it and I've had no problems with it. I was thinking about getting another for a different rifle.
My question is why are they so inexpensive now? They are going for about 50-60% if what I paid for it 8 years ago. Are they crap and always have been and I got lucky with mine? Any imput about any Simmons scopes would be useful.

I imagine the scopes are so cheap because they're probably made in China like everything else. Despite that, I bought a 44 Mag target scope for my Contender last year and it's held up just fine. It's mounted on a 16" .30-30 barrel that bucks like a mule when it's shooting anything heavier than a 125gr bullet. Of course there are always some lemons but from what I've seen out on the net everyone's been happy with the model I bought.

No the Aetec's aren't made in China. Some lower in the Simmons line are.
As far as I know they are made the same as in '96. Don't know why they are cheaper now. One of hte best bargains in scopes today. And more than most things you get what you pay for in scopes. The Aetec bucks that trend a little.
