Do any of you have a S&W 386PD? I am looking at buying one for a house weapon/sometime carry weapon....Most of the time I carry a Walther P99....but I am a Revolver man at heart carried a Model 66 with a 4inch barrel for years...Back to my question...I need help with this...I have also considered the Ruger GP101 or SP101...but I really like the fact of seven rounds in the cyclinder...also I like the weight...if I go with the 386 I know that I want HiViz sights...and maybe later Crimson Trace Laser Grips.
thanks guys any info will be a great help

I have a regular 386. Three inch barrel, stainless finish, etc. I have found it to be an excellent revolver. 38 special and +P ammo are quite manageable in it. 357 produces significant recoil but IMHO not the hand wrenching, wrist bending, finger snapping kind mentioned in many of these posts. I have found it to be accurate with each of the aformentioned kinds of ammo. Now I know that you really didn't want to hear about my 386 but the reason I mentioned it is that I figure that the 386PD and the 386 must be close in performance. So, as I said, I too am interested in hearing in other's experience with the 386. Good shooting;)

Nope. Sorry. I am used to carrying K, L and N frames(625 3" now). I purchased a 386PD thinking what a great revolver for carry it would be. At that time I was carrying my 686+ 3". I thought of the weight savings on my hip. First let me say as a last ditch weapon then maybe ok. IMHO it is not a front line weapon. I have come to realize at 50 years old that other factors are more important than just weight savings. Pointability, accuracy, follow-up shot to shot accuracy, and speed of shooting.
In these areas the superlightweights fail. The 386PD now resides in back shelf in my safe.

I went back and check S&W website and found that it is the regular 386 that I was looking at ...I like the three inch barrel better than the 2.5 inch....

I agree with Kahr carrier. My 686+ 3" one of those I will never get rid of.
