NYC Gun Laws for Military Personnel

In two weeks or so, I am joining the Coast Guard Reserve (to go full time as an officer after I finish school). When I sign, does it change my gun rights for living in NYC? Can I legally posses (read store) a long gun or handgun in my home without having to go through the long and too costly (for my thin wallet) method of getting a permit? Is getting said permits easier for military personnel? Carry Permits?

A military person not on base or at an assigned duty station, or not under orders to be armed, is just another civilian insofar as one's rights under state law.
Expeditious handling of paperwork for a firearms permit is strictly a function of the personal attitude of that hierarchy of civil servants.
It's been that way since before I went in the Army on January 19th, 1954. :(
Welcome to the real world. :banghead:
