Why don't they just place all the criminals on "double secret probation"?

I downloaded that ..... and it appears that yet again they are looking to consider further ''tightening'' ...... and seem to fail still, to realize their inept and eronious correlations between legal and illegal. All the time thinking that control of guns in the law abiding community somehow makes a jot of difference with regard to criminal aquisition and useage.
Take a look at this chart (from the PDF file).. to remind you of how since '97 gun crime figures have risen .... I mean, sheesh ... surely this should tell them something?? But no .. seems the only recourse they have is contemplating even more restrictive legislation. Bet you it'll happen.
Amazing ... seems they'll never learn and the ''Great British Public'' I guess somehow feels securely ''nanny-ized'' to such an extent that they think the sun shines outa the Gov's butt!

lets not forget that the UK cops now carry guns (well some of them do), why could that be??? They have not carried guns till very recently.. Things must be getting really "safe" out there.

So - if we are to take the gun grabbers model of belief that gun laws will effect 'gun crime', and compare it to this statistical model we discover that further gun laws will...
a) Not reduce shotgun and rifle crime
b) Dramatically increase handgun, imitation and airgun crime.
Interesting that rifles and shotguns were the categories that were messed with the least by the latest round of bans, and they are the categories that are closest to being static.
Yeah. That's "working".

IIRC in fact .... they have been ''carrying'' for a long time now (10 to 15 years) ... in as much as, ''armed response units'' are well established. They are usually cars within which are lockable storage units, containing pieces for use when authorized. AFAIK, the bobbies do not ''carry'' routinely yet in the literal sense .. on the hip. Wish they would.

another gunowner has commented appropo this:-
" Sad to admit, but I have been involved in responding to a number of
government consultations in relation to the financial services industry &
tax law. The pattern is always the same: there is an element of
"consultation" but many of the questions are loaded by reference to EU
Directives. What I see here is no different, in this case EU directive
91/477/EEC
http://europa.eu.int/comm/internal_market/en/goods/text91477en.pdf
This is not a proposal: it is EU law, binding on the UK Government and
has been since 1991. In effect it is a minimum standard on firearms and
EU member states are entitled to go beyond this but the objective is of
course Euro harmonisation.
Go through the EU document (only 9 pages) and the answer (i.e decision
already made) to some of the so called "questions" asked such as the
"category" a firearm should fall into will be quite clear. Note that the
Directive is silent on shotguns per se, just goes into the category
that a particular smooth-bore weapon falls into, so you can see where that
is going.
On "firearms components" the answer is also there: breech closing
mechanism, chamber and barrel. All the crap about trigger mechanisms, just
like some other apparent nonsense, will be in there only so it can said
to have been be dropped after full public consultation. Spin, spin,
spin. "

Re shotguns in UK .. let me add this from the NRA site update for today ....
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=%2Fnews%2F2004%2F05%2F13%2Fnguns13.xml Countryside Groups Attack Plan For Curbs On Shotguns The prospect of tougher controls on shotguns, including preventing young people using them, was raised by the British government May 12. Police currently have to show that no "good reason" exists for someone to own a shotgun. It is suggested the burden of proof for shotguns should instead mirror that for licensed firearms, such as hunting and shooting rifles, and owners should have to show a good reason for owning each weapon.
