After 5000 rds, CZ85 jams

I've been shooting my CZ-85 since I got it around August 2002. It had gone through a lot of IPSC competitions as well as practice. I lost count, but on estimate roughly 5,000 rounds (handloads).

Never encountered a significant jam/malfunction. Last week, I have notice a couple of jams (failure to eject, causing a failure to feed) on a practice session, but brushes it as maybe limp resting or some underloaded handloads.

Yesterday, I went through a very bad competition run, with having to encounter five! jams on different stages. All same FTEs resulting in FTF. I had to clear the shell, remove the mag, and load it back again to continue. All the handloads are up to par at 128PF (chronoed), so its not the bullets. Also, had interchanged the mags, so its also ruled out. A number of friends surmise that it could well be a tighten extractor. They said that CZ does have a notoriety on these extractors. Anyone can confirm this? Anybody had similar experience or some insights?

I had a Tanfoglio once, which also exhibited similar characteristics, but when I replaced the extractor it still exhibited similar problem. I was found out that it was the barrel (at the locking lugs) that was causing a bad battery return.

Thanks.

I'm not being sarcastic here and I can't figure out what kind of Typo it might be (If it is)-
But-- What do you mean by --
it might be "a tighten extractor"

right, it is a common problem with any autos that use the same
extractor design. The spring has become weak, more so than the
extractor worn.

for a quick fix.. take out the present spring. stretch it a bit.
reinstall and test it. Then wait for CZUB to send you another.

That is what i would do for a weak extractor spring. Look
on CZF under Gunsmithing for more info.

EJ> We usually use the term "tightened extractor" as being an extractor that is not responsive. I'm not exactly a gunsmith, so I leave it at that.

CZF> Indeed, it might be a weaken spring. I'll try to replace it, and see if the FTE does disappear.

Did you ever clean it?

I was thinkin, 'wow, 5000 rounds without cleaning until it jammed' at first.

I have had two CZ 75B's: the first was replaced due to excessive jams similar to what you are describing. Extractor & spring were replaced by CZ gunsmith, as well as new recoil spring & guide, fresh magazine & spring, ejector replaced. When it was returned, it still jammed; stovepipes, FTeject, FTfeed, spent case partially ejected but caught in ejection port. Replacement 75B had other issues: broke 3 slide stops in about 2000 rounds. It is back at CZ USA. I have discussed with many Gun folks; the general opinion is my CZs have lock-up timing problems and/or the hole below the barrel where the slide stop goes through is hitting slidestop at an angle. I am not bashing the CZ pistols, in fact, I really hope to keep it! Upon inspection of the barrel lugs, they were starting to "round-off" after about 500 rounds. I never shoot +P loads or handloaded ammo and I clean my pistol(s) after each session. I have bought four Wolff recoil springs, stronger magazine springs and had the feedramp and chamber polished. I have friends who think "It's Me", as their CZs are trouble-free...:banghead: ...one for the books!
